I just got a brand new MPC XL. But the screen when at a certain angle and the unit is flat on a desk the screen falls flat if the mechanism behind the screen is not engaged. Also if the unit is held vertically and screen is locked the screen moves about 2mm. Not sure if any of this is normal for a brand new Mpc XL.

I mentioned this on day one and no one listened. Yes, they are ALL like this.
OG X never had this problem.

to say "they are all like this" is crazy, as you have no way to verify each unit sold. i had the OG X , the SE, and the XL and the screen does not fall down under its own weight.

--that said, its not designed to be touched or used if the bracket is not engaged. i have no problems lifting the screen up, it's keeping put, until I attach the bracket.

Mine does the same thing but falls down after the last available slot for the bracket to go into. The screen holds its own up until that point then falls flat beyond the last bracket slot going towards folding position of the screen.

Screen up with no bracket, it doesn’t shake when you bang pads?
Screen up when locked in, NOT, in the last bracket doesn’t rattle?

I don't understand. Are you trying to use it without using the wire bracket thing behind the screen to hold it up? At least with mine, it very obviously won't stay up unless I use the wire bracket, which is why it's there.

Yeah, a potential alternative would be to tighten the joint mechanism, but then you're putting undo stress on the plastic parts which could then lead to failure.

I've seen plenty of good locking systems with multiple articulations with laptops... but those generally use a lot more metal than was used with the XL from what I can see.

It’s tight enough to stay up with out using the wire bracket if you don’t tap the screen hard or poke it like you trying to put someone's eyes out.

My note was about the wire bracket being on anything but the tightest/highest groove. The screen will rattle around when you bang pads. Every XL I’ve touched so far does this. Not an issue, just an observation, it doesn’t stop me from doing what I do at all.
