Using a controller as Q Links

I am not talking about "midi learn" that's a whole seperate layer only relating to projects. get that out of your mind wul. That is only mapping midi routing within the project you are working on.

once you map your *controller* properly you dont need midi learn its useless.

you have to get the controller to conform to what the mpc expects for messages on specific channels to gain real full control like you want by either changing the midi channel and notes on your controller itself, or making a .xmm

I'm pretty good at some stuff in the MPC, and woeful at others, and the file system is something I definitely struggle with, and tend to avoid. But an error message about not enough memory had me having to deal with it recently. I've got my head around half your post, hopefully I'll get my head around the rest. Thanks for the help.

No worries, the Launch control is really great for mapping to the MPC. It completely transforms the soft synth plug ins. Especially the OPX4 which really benefits from having hands on control. especially with so many things spread across different pages. I have the XL2, and when the XL3 came out, I grabbed a second XL2 incase it stopped being available (I'm really tempted to get a 3rd ). Having 8 banks means a synth can get a bank each, but the OPX4 gets 3 banks. I have my template set up like this
Midi Channel 3 Bank 1 - OPX4
Midi Channel 3 Bank 2 - OPX4
Midi Channel 3 Bank 3 - OPX4
Midi Channel 4 Bank 4 - Jura
Midi Channel 5 Bank 5 - MiniD
Midi Channel 6 Bank 6 - Odyssey
Midi Channel 7 Bank 7 - SubFactory
Midi Channel 8 Bank 8 - Iona

I must be a real confused soul, hey ultros htf do you copy an .xmm file to the midi learn folder on a gen 1 without it being hacked. I find the easiest way to create the .xmm file is on desktop software . Although my *target control” figures are not the same as your list in the other post.

I have them on excel spreadsheets, and the colour coding helps. The ones I use the most I remember, but others I just need to check for a bit and then it's just logically laid out so pretty intuitive. ASDRs are always the faders, so that's a 1/4 of the layout (except the Odyssey which doesn't have 2 ADSR, but just ADSR AR, so then the other two faders are cutoff and res)

My biggest is the OPX4, being 3 banks of 32, but it's actually the easiest because everything repeats
Faders are ADSR for 6 envelopes
Knob Row above the faders are ADSR Envelope curves (with time scale as sustain doesn't have a curve control) for6 envelopes
Knob top row is just Operator Level 1,2,3,4 six times into FM matrix Op1, Op2, Op3, Op4, Sub Mix 1 and Submix 2.
Then the remaining inbetween row is PW, Formant, FM Shaping, FM Filtering each for 4 opertars and Filter Cut Res, Drive and LFO for 1 and 2.
(I've simplified the OPX4 to just being ADSR btw, as they have extra stages, but they can be set so they behave like ADSRs which is more intuitive to me)

There's sill a whole bunch unmapped on the OPX, but it's then the MPC can jump between a couple of pages whilst the Launch controls do what I do need to look at.

I've realised since Ultros's replies that if I do get a launch control working for the Q-links I'm going to get another one. Typically one Launch control sit on bank 1, and the other bounces between 2 and 3. If I then have half of one assigned to q-links then I'm going to do more jumping back and fourth which leads to screw up. And it's nice with the easier synths to have on on one plug in on one Launch Control and the other on another, to tweak things simultaneously. I have a few hardware synths and the launch controls really do make it feel like the MPC's plug ins are hardware synths too

Bring your MPC into control mode and access the MPCs external drive (SD card or SSD drive) with your PC/Mac.

There is a folder named "MIDI Learn" in the root folder.

Only the sd card is made available in control mode . No external or internal drives are available on a gen 1 Mpc one , the only way to access them is to enable ssh and use winscp

Put it in controller mode as you suggested and delete them from midi learn root folder on the computer .

But they are on the internal drive, not my SD card.

How do I access this folder without SSH?
