Maybe this is a stupid question but does the automation feature on MPC’s work on an external synth? I have my Access Virus Ti connected to my MPC and I’ve recorded a simple bass acid clip loop. When I eventually record to my clips /scenes to arranger I want to automate the Access Virus midi track by tweaking the cutoff and resonance on my Access Virus. Will this automation work?
Thanks,
Michael

If the external synths accepts MIDI CC to change its parameters you can automate them on the MPC.
Within the MIDI track you have to create a new lane with correct CC and your done.
As drawing the automation is cumbersome I map usually one of the Q-Links in project mode 1 or 2 to the CC. So I can record the automation in real time.

Thanks, I did try this and set one Q link cc 40 which is filter cutoff on my synth and another Q link to cc 42 which is Resonance on my synth. As I play the Midi track tweaking the Q Links does work on both filter and resonance but will not work as automation and no automation is listed on the List view.

Update
It seems to record automation ok so long as Play/ Overdub is pressed which seems odd as automation is independent of Play / Overdub
But it works and that’s the main thing!

I forgot this to mention that you have to (overdub) record to the track.
Parameter automation of interal synths and FXs works with the write automation setting. But in this case you are recording MIDI CC. At least this is my explanation for the behaviour.
In a way it makes sense. OTOH paramater automation and MIDI CCs are shown in the same way in grid view. *shrug*
