How To Get MPC60 Ringing Artefacts On Samples

Hey!

I am trying to get the MPC60 signature sound out of my machine (MPC60 mkI, Vimana 3.15b). For example: Hi-Tek - The Gimmicks. It is prominently heard on the main and bass sample (if i am not mistaken).

I am a big Hi-Tek fan and i see him utilize it in so many beats. I would love to get a better understanding of how to get this sound to deliberately get some textures to my samples.

I tried 45/78rpm playback speed on my turntable and tuning the sample down to different semitones but to no avail. I tried hitting the a/d converters soft and hard, no effect.

I searched the forum but could not find anything that helped me answer my question.

Any help/tips appreciated, thanks!

i mean, ok... you might need to find different sample sources, and maybe a bit of EQing on the way in... perhaps on the way out also if you track via the 8 outs. I don't hear any aliasing in that beat you linked.. but there is quite a bit of vinyl noise.

Buy a SP1200 thats the way you get the dirty. MPC60 never gonna sound like that.
Owned the MPC60, traded up to MPC3000 and SP1200 many moons ago.

You can only get that ringing when loading samples from the DD-floppy’s. It’s caused by the rpm of the electro motor.

combine that with 2008 youtube encoding.. that was the secret weapon... that is why it never sounded right on the mpc1000 and 2500.

The legend goes that if you leave the voltage converter of the old display connected, and bridge its output with a 47K 0,5w resistor,, u can still hear the whining noise of it,,, others would debate its the sp1200 goodness
