Akai really would be shooting itself in the foot if projects from the Sample aren’t transferable to the Live and X/XL. Just letting new users get familiair with the MPC ecosystem. You like it and want more? Upgrade to the Live or XL and unlock more features!
My guess is that the Sample will run a stripped down version of 3.xx. As I pointed out earlier, there’s no Program Edit or Channel Mixer seen on the surface. Unless it’s buried a few pages deep in another menu (which seems unlikely), chances are those features are omitted from the Sample. All buttons and menus to edit params and settings are all pad or sample params. Very similar to the 500 and the 404 (I know the 500 has a Program Edit mode and allows having multiple programs in a project, it still works better when working only with one program per project). Since Channels and Tracks are one and the same, I also think the number of tracks in the sequencer might be limited to just one, so ‘track muting’ and mixing is done by muting pads and adjusting levels and settings per pad or sample.

You could be right. Maybe I’m just wishful thinking butI don’t think they want this to be entry level since they have the One. This seems like an mpc geared towards the mini lofi sampling crowd, and heads who don’t like the modern mpcs. It’s trying to reach a new market not the existing one
Also in the leaked marketing they specifically highlight the “iconic workflow of vintage mpcs”
Also, it’s been a long time but I don’t recall program buttons on classic mpcs. Wasn’t that just selected from the screen?

Yeah, it might just be a more basic sample/drum program maker to be able to chop up some sounds to test out a beat & load that program to other MPCs/Software/Force to finish it.

I take “vintage workflow” with a grain of salt. I agree with what Certified Beatz said, most people would not have the patience to handle a “vintage workflow”. No dedicated chop function, no visual wave form and only 1 program per sequence (60/3000). Time will tell how “vintage” the workflow will be, and whether the things I speculated will hold any truth or not.
