How to "initialize" a clip's track automations?

I enable automation recording, then wiggle knobs etc., and the automation is recorded into that clip. List Edit shows all the moves I made via the Track Automation filter. Apparently, I could also edit or add new Track Automations here.

When another clip in that track launches (via a follow action or a touch), it begins with all the parameters in the last state they were in from the clip where I recorded the automation. In that case, I begin a new clip, then go to List Edit to enter Track Automations for the parameters that I want to begin in some initial state. But I don't find a way to enter new Track Automations that way.

Basically, my question comes down to: what's the best workflow for doing per-clip automation that has no side effects on other clips?

The MPC isn't that smart.... whatever automated parameter will keep its value into the next clip unless automated there too. Scenes can have snapshots but it doesn't change my previous assertion. You can't "reset" an automated parameter like that.
