Here! I absolutely LOVE my Live 3. Sits nicely on my desk, personally I think all the updates (pads, step sequencer - and all the bits you can do with the 16 buttons like mutes, launches, edits) are brilliant.
It's built like a tank, and the USB to DAW works like a charm. And it works great with my other hardware. It's incredibly capable.
Honestly, I'd love an XL but the Live 3 seems to cover pretty much every darn thing I need!
I feel the same way. I ordered the MPC Live 3 within minutes of it going on sale. If I had to choose only one MPC, this would be the only right choice for me.
However, that doesn't change the fact that I'm very tempted by the XL. The upper left corner with direct access to tracks and effects is brilliant. Obviously, more encoders, and ones with OLED displays, are a very useful feature.
There's also something I really like about the XL that the Live 3 lacks – backlit sequencer functions. Unfortunately, I usually sit down at the MPC late at night and can't see which button is which, and I haven't developed muscle memory because I don't use these functions often – a closed negative feedback loop
It's very tempting, but on the other hand, I'm holding back because it costs two of my monthly salaries.
If the new Force actually came out, I'd have another reason to consider it. I used to have a Force, but I sold it because I didn't like the user experience. The 64 pads were great, but working in sequences was unergonomic, and I preferred the classic MPC workflow to the Ableton-like one that the Force was designed for. Maybe if Force 2 came out, this problem wouldn't exist, because it would truly be more MPC64-like
