MPC 2000 boot disk question

Is there a way to load up an MPC 2000 without the boot disk? After turning on the MPC 2000 is says, "Insert MPC2000 Disk!" I just wanted to know if there was another way around this.

Before trying to load a disk, it also says, "MPC2000 Boot Rom V1.00," then "SCSI:7:" Is this normal?

Sorry if it sounds like a newb question, I have the XL... I wouldn't know. Thanks in advance to all replies.

Are you sure you got the proper the proper OS for the 2KXL?
The MPC should do some checks when first turned on, then go to the Main screen.

Anyone else??? Is that the older OS??

It seems like episode is not talking about his 2Kxl but about a 2000 classic. I have not much experience with that machine but I guess you need to have a boot disk to start the MPC2000. To get a MPC2000 boot disk search the forum that topic has been tackled many times b4.

correct, i do have an XL... the problem i was referring to was for the MPC2000l; sorry for the confusion. i do have the boot disk (v1.72 i believe), but i was just wondering if there's a way to just update the os, so you don't need to keep booting from the floppy. is this just something you have to deal with if you have an MPC2000?

I think the MPC2000 manual is pretty clear on the correct answer.

It's something you'll have to deal w/ 'til you spend $350 on flash ROM (I think, I don't have it personally) . I just put the OS on all my zips and when I start it up it reads off my scsi instead of my floppy .

Not having a manual for an Akai product is not an excuse. If you can read this, then you are on some sort of appliance that can retrieve the manual.

Worse yet, you did NOT read though the newbie forum and follow any of the excellent first timer tips there. The reason it is there is so that you can try to help yourself before wasting someone else's time. No one here is going to help you until you help yourself first.
