Don't really know where to start with this one. People were suggesting it as a possibility, but I don't think anyone really thought it would happen.
Maschine finally dead I assume. And Akai now have access to one of the biggest content libraries in existence.

Not that Maschine was much of a competitor anymore, but do Akai have any actual competitors these days? Not sure that's in any way a good thing.

presumably no more machine updates or a any mk4

but perhaps we now get kontakt and other instruments on MPC and the continued roll out of more romplers and soundpacks from NI onto MPC.

so defo a good move for Akai and MPC, not so much for Maschine die hards

I knew the writing was on the wall went the NI sounds came to MPC, I said that Akai made NI bend the knee, and this is the final submission.

I was right.
That’s one of the reasons why the final version of MPC Desktop is taking so long to come out. There must be a lot of planning, tweaking, and development involved. They’ll end up developing a true DAW. And with Native’s expertise, they’ll be able to develop real virtual instruments for the MPCs.
A new era is beginning.

I knew this was going to happen. The writing was on the wall with the NI MPC plug in/expansions. Who else was going to buy a flailing company who had a much stronger competitor. I stopped caring about Machine years ago, but the things that will now likely be ported to Gen 2 MPCs makes my mouth drool.

inMusic owns a sizable chunk of the music production space and this just added another corner of the market. I hope they keep the sound design team. If they do the MPC Gen2 boys are about to eat. I feel a boatload of ported romplers and kits are on the way. At least they will load quickly.

Here's to hoping they don't squander the opportunity here and make something really unique going forward.

I figured awhile ago that A merger would be a Wise Marriage.


InMusic(Akai) is more of a Strong Hardware Entity, struggling on the Software side of things.
NI is more of a Strong Software Entity, struggling on the Hardware side of things.

Keep the Two Separated in a Retail sense, while integrating each other's Shortcomings.

Being able to run a version of NI’s Massive synth on an Akai standalone would definitely get me to biy a gen 2 device. Hype and OPx are not great to me.

I still keep an old iPad with iMaschine 2 on it just for the dry snappy NI drums and the Maschine swing on the grid is pretty different from MPC also. Works great with Ableton link. Sold my actual Maschine controller ages ago.

But this probably means significant updates to gen 1 firmware are coming to an end.

I don’t think Gen 2 will see kontakt and machine, they can’t get them to run on their own proprietary hardware.. I could be wrong.. I think it will be watered down versions at most. I think maybe they will develop NI to be more of the keys/daw side of things.

inMusic needs to change their name to allmusic. These MFs are buying everything!

Akai never integrated the Akai MIDI controllers with MPC. But with the Native Instruments purchase, including the Native Instruments MIDI controllers, we now have an excellent chance they'll never integrate them either !

This is great news.. always expected anyway.. and now we can get the full up to date expansions and kontakt libraries.. this great for all gen 2 MPC owners we can now get better sounds other than AIR which is good but not to the level of NI instruments.. happy but pissed I blew 4k on NI products I bought and sold because of there software

They need to figure out cross license activation. There should be no reason to buy MPC editions if you already own the product from Native Instruments.

I could justify when they were separate companies but it doesn’t make sense to pay the same company twice.

Thats true but how they would have to then port all over which we dont get at the moment that would be hugh but dont see how..I think we will get full access to maschine software as a plugin like reason rack
