I want to be able to hold down a step on the step sequencer buttons and use the touch strip to automate more than just the volume of a step.

Pressing the touch strip button should let me cycle through all of the available effects when editing and set a value as such (the same effects, or more, that are found when performing).

If Akai is listening...

In the meantime, what are some hardware implementation workarounds? Like using QLinks, etc. Or is there only software/touch screen menu diving available for this kind of thing?

If there’s a way to tie a solution into MIDI Learn or something else which is an icon in the main menu, a workaround could be to use the menu+pad method of launching a menu operation. From another thread:

“..there is a quick access to the menu items via the pads. Just press and hold menu and then press the pad according to the icon position. That's almost as good as a dedicated button.”

I never noticed the menu icons were an 8x8 grid until this trick!

I use this to quickly get to Clip Launch mode on my X which doesn’t have a dedicated button for it, and a few other things I find myself reaching for often.
