Live 3 Retro dropped

Wouldn't it be nice if they just released the product with a few different color options from the jump... y'know... like most other industries.

The special edition thing is ages old as a way to spark life back into sales of an item especially if being replaced soon, the market perceives it as stale, or a new launch has stolen some of the first product’s thunder.

And “new and improved” or new colors/styles is probably even older than printed currency.

Yep I’m a former Maschine owner, and now an Akai fanboy. Feel like there’s nothing I can’t do with my MPC X and Force combo since 3.6 came out.

If it goes well I can see them trying an XL retro mambo#5 kanye lightly fried fish stick color as well even though from across the room XL already looks sorta/kinda retro.

I still think 3000LE was the best faceplate. #2 for me was (everybody hates orange w/ glow in the dark bacon pads) 2kxlse2.

I liked the 2500 with black pads I saw in Rouge Music shop in 2005. At the time I didn't even know the 2500 was a thing & to first see it customized like that had me in awe. I ended up with the OG 1k & I didn't like the blue & red but I ain't trying to date the MF. Had a lot of fun with that ugly ****!

I always regretted not getting a brand new Live II retro as I still think it is the best looking MPC, at least in the current era. It could only have been improved by adding dark grey knobs.

This Live III retro is really a joke. They didn't even use the grey buttons they used on the Live II????? Crazy! It literally just looks like a skin. All they have done is put some light grey pellets into the moulding machine and painted the speaker grill.
If they had put some genuine love into it and replaced all the black buttons with grey, replaced the touchstrip with a grey one and replaced the knobs for dark grey like the old MPC 60,3000 etc it would have been a beauty. Instead it's a botched neither/or halfway house......bad bad job Akai!!

I've always felt that Akai (or maybe InMusic in general) have pretty bad designers. I've always thought that Native Instruments kit has a much more polished and well designed layout, where MPC usually just has buttons and knobs all over the shop.
Hopefully the design team from NI will now influence the Akai range and we can have the functionality and features of MPC with the layout and design of Maschine.

If the Live II retro is a 9/10
The Live III retro is a 5/10

......as someone else mentioned, although the pads are grey, I don't really know why we need the corner lights, we all know the pads are quad now so don't really need the lights, especially on a "retro" model.

The colors would make much more sense if they update them to play chromatically and scales.
I really don’t think they should be able to get away with this.. I know it is not a huge deal, but just seems wrong.. I hate it, and I was so excited for the live 2. Even the live 3 looks pretty good, I’m surprised about the finish being like parkerized finish almost, it looks pretty good.. this is just so cheap… I hope nobody buys it. I would have traded for it if it looked good with the grey.. I loved my live 2 retro.

I'm aware of why they do it, just wish they'd release color options from the jump.
They could also release the 'retro' edition in limited quantities at the release, then it's news when they restock them... y'know, like in most other industries.

It's just the corny capitalism that gets to me.

the problem is they did not change the colour of the touch strip, the button or the qlinks, dats a bit lazy of dem, how hard would it be for them to fully update the colour wave for those parts also

ive always loved the retro colors. im glad inmnusic put this out so quickly.

Hoping the corner lights can eventually be individually customised on the 'pad color' screen, this would make the lights more useful.

I bought one (Retro 2) but the pads were awful, inconsistent sensitivity, had to hit it dead centre otherwise it often didn't register the hit at all. Sent it back immediately and didn't bother getting another. Seems a common complaint with the live 2 retro pads, not sure if it extends to the retro mpce pads. The black mpce pads are fantastic, almost Maschine level sensitivity (almost...).

All this cool and all if it means more money gained to get the software out of beta and VST support finally added.. like, c'mon already Akai .

I'm really starting to feel like this company don't give a shiet about nothing else unless they can get us to buy the new, latest greatest at this point. and folks who just love buying equipment to say they got the new thing keep encouraging the foolishness. MPC equals apple and their model for the iPhones..

I got an MPC X SE that I can't use in the way that I used to be able to use in 2.15 unless I downgrade.. TALK ABOUT A** backwards ..
