That image is so obviously fake - the key 37 is hanging so far off the table and the lighting is all wrong!

When the live 3 images first surfaced people claimed it was fake, when the MPC XL images first surfaced people claimed it was fake.

Same with the MPC Sample images people claimed it was fake, in all of the above instances the people saying it was fake were proved wrong.

So ur probably wrong in calling the gen2 key 37 images fake

Yeah... that would look sweet. Don't think there's any 61-key keyboards in that classic Akai colorway since the old, vintage Akai X7000 from 1986.

I wonder if they're going to make new MPKs all in the retro color.

Now that the COVID bedroom music production tbing seems to have died, plus most of us in the market for gear have either gotten gen 2 Akais or hoarded the older stuff i imagine their sales are slowing. So good time to give the people new colors.

And who knows what if anything will come from buying NI? Maybe they think new DJ or groove box gear is the way. I’d sure like to see Akai do their take on a Komplete Kontol keyboard with a Massive VST running inside.

Whoever can't make a record with what they already got in the Key37 really can't make a record at all with a new Key37 G2. I don't think the G2 will enable people to make records that couldn't make with the regular Key37 Keyboard. But for those that wants to pay for a few more gigs of memory space, more power to them. I think most peoples are waiting for a true upgrade to to the original Key37 with upgraded pads of the new units, and touch strip. But that may come after they introduce the next Key61 with upgraded features.

There’s a guy in Africa famous for playing a guitar with only one string. He’s really good. I guess that means the other 5 strings are unnecessary? Why even have an orchestra when you could just have a guy with a tambourine huh?

Anyhow, try to make a Psytrance song on a k37 g1 and get back to us.

The Key37 G1 is far from a one string comparison. Try saying a guy with a band already, and because he can make a song with a keyboard full of whole band sounds and instruments, he feels the other two thousand sounds are inadequate to finishing the song. A person who knows the Key37 G1 can easily make Psytrance song with the unlimited amount of sounds already offered. It's like saying you couldn't make a Psytrance song until you realized Akai made you think you need the G2 to really conquer the Psytrance song production. If i was into Psytrance, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt I could make Psytrance records. There are so many sounds you can stack with ease to achieve that goal. Obviously you can add more sounds, but with the G1 you can achieve the same goal of finishing the record with all the sounds you need. But more power to you for wanting a G2 to inspire you to achieve those goals, but I personally think I can make any type of record with any MPC unit with onboard synths. Sometimes less is more. And you study long, you study wrong.

Why do you care what others do with their money. People have all kinds of reason for buying different MPCs. Everything that they did add to this g2 key37 is worth an upgrade if those things are important for someone. Could Akai done more to the design like gave it MPCe pads? Yes, and maybe they'll add a Pro/SE unit later, but as it is, a better color, more RAM, a more powerful processor, 32 plugs & USB-C, isn't stupid to people who already have the g1 or anyone who would liked a more powerful key37 that wasn't red.

I don’t care what people do with their money but that has nothing to do with my observation

I think it’s great for Akai to make a bunch of money off the backs of people with addictions.

And as far as the upgrades you pointed out, you do realize the majority of people who buy this also have a live3 and/or MPX right?

Boom bap or techno is fine, Psytrance wants lots of layers of evolving synths and effects plus layered drums. Give it a try and see how fast the device throws a CPU warning at you.

Weird you assume i want a G2 and feel superior to me because of it. Because I don’t want a g2 but I do have to use both my Force and MPC X side by side to do songs like this.

Incidentally I’m probably the odd man out doing this on Akai gear and a mixer. Pretty much all Psytrance is made on actual computers running Serum with dozens of tracks. Before OPx-4 and sub factory it would have been impossible, unless you call slapping Splice loops together making music.

“Study long, study wrong” indeed

Only inMusic knows for sure but this seems extremely unlikely for the first k37 or g2. The demographics of our little corner of the internet isn’t representative of the world. The last 3 used Akai devices I bought were clearly used very little then the owner gave up, because they left a handful of barely started files on each and didn’t even log out.

Plus the k37 is mostly a gateway device for Akai and they’ve admitted it.

You care enough to call people you don't know stupid for buying a new MPC on a MPC forum, even tho most people sale the old one before it loses to much resale value, but no, everyone is stupid. Nothing else you said made any sense. You just sound bitter for whatever reason.

How would you know that the majority of people that buy this own L3/XL? Sounds like you're talking out your ass, but why, if don't care?

Also, if you don't care, then why would you think it's great that Akai is making money off of people addictions? How many of Akai sales is made of these addicts?

Smart people can present facts for their claims. So please if you don't...

I like that finally someone talks about psytrance on the mpc. Technically you could create an arrangement if you synthesize your one shots, pads and arpeggios and mix them down in samples straeming from disk.

It is a very very complex genre sound design wise and most MPC filters do not sound that good in my ears tho. I have yet to find a good bandpass filter that does the trick and the single cycle waves deteriorate very fast in quality when you pitch them down an octave or two.
If they make a good, BP filter that has that nice chirpy resonance when it is cranked up, then maybe I will revisit the keygroup engine for psytrance sound design

I have a couple of mono synths that do nice squelches and wavetably stuff so they help with the situation.

I'm starting to think the reason the MpcXL was so expensive compared to previous one was to do with the new pads they released. "E-Pads?" "X/Y Pads?" I feel like that was a waste of effort. No one asked for that.

The MpcOne is tempting now that it has USB Out but the OS is atrocious to me, and releasing new hardware at 3.9 seems weird to me.

Just wait... They gonna release an New Mpc just for 4.0...

Akai... :Sigh:
