Word makes sense to me in this context.

gaslighting/ˈɡasˌlīdiNG/

“Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation where someone deliberately distorts facts or denies reality to make another person question their own sanity, memory, or perceptions. The term originates from a 1938 play and film (Gas Light) in which a husband manipulates his wife into believing she is losing her mind”.

I dont see how this applies to Akai in the first post of this thread claiming it:

“ I'm only salty because I don't like being resold features we used to have access to in older version of a machine, that we only now have access to in newer versions that we have to pay for, just to do things we used to be able to do in older versions. I'm a firm believer that if you make a good product, you don't have to make newer versions just to get new consumers. Akai has a history of leaving legacy machines in the dust, that are capable of doing stuff the newer machines can do just by changing a few lines of coding. But hey, if you like the idea of buying the latest greatest, shiny new thing, more power to you. Continue being a part of the reason why things will never change.. Do yourself a favor and watch the video though. I'm sure a lot of y'all will relate. At this point I'm so close to just sticking to Ableton, Logic, or Studio One”

This literally make no sense.. features taken away and brought back to be resold again.. let me ask you were there ssd drives in 1995? 16gb of ram on the 3000 and be able to load plugin instruments.. if your answer is not then what you bought was a gen 2 MPC the rest you are talking about is just complaining.. you paid for gen 2 features

I'm sure there's many valid points in there, but it's hard to watch as the whinge factor is off the scale. Fundamentally, it sounds like he should just move on to a different platform. He says, "Maschine was inherently more fun to use", and there seems to be a lot of love for JJOS on his channel, so multiple solutions there. MPC3 is not for everyone. I also think the MPC Software 3 whinging is likely to calm down somewhat when 3.9 is released...

Im enjoying mpc 3.. there alot under the hood that I haven't even touched yet I feel at times its to much. That my complaint it comes a time when the end user is asking for stuff just to not make music :-D . The next release hopefully will be the software will be able to be hosted in a daw and the arranger is the main reason indont use the software now.. if they put the arranger in the desktop software I will be happy..

It might not be textbook "gaslighting," but I get what the op is saying, & agree. It's more like corporate, or capitalist gaslighting... or just plain capitalism. The company just repackages old supply after it has been forgotten & calls it new again. Or offers a new machine that does THIS but they don't mention it doesn't do THAT anymore...
Most people in here don't appreciate akai trying to sell us the latest "tape effect" vst, when it's just old effects with a new faceplate. So before you roast the op over semantics, remember what they have already sold us...
I'm still bummed the live 2 didn't have more ram, when it would have been SO EASY to just put a couple more gigs in there. Oh well, guess I'll just buy the new one

I get what the op meant as well, but at least most of all "new" stuff is optional & they do offer something new about how those old things are used.

You can install 4GB of RAM if you know how, if not send it to him:

The new tape sat does not seem to be the same as flavor. And the clip launching (paid) upgrade is also different and more advanced than what was there before.

If there’s a shady marketing move, it’s the vintage synth collection that’s all the same except the waveforms and filters. It easily could have all been included in a single synth. But the arpeggiator is pretty cool in those, I bought all three.

Also sucks the new warp algo was paywalled. But didn’t suck enough to keep me from buying Pro Pack because I wanted that plus clip launching for my X. Used MPC X plus pro pack cost barekt over a grand, and that’s a lot of machine for $1100. Add $500 for all the cool plugs and $100 for extended warranty and it’s an amazing setup for EDM.

I asked chatgpt how you guys would typically respond in a thread like this:

JethroJethro wrote:ngl if your whole workflow collapses because a company added paid features over time, that might be a workflow issue not a conspiracy

your CPU is also gone compared to 5 years ago and yet here we are
