I do a lot of techno/ambient rhythm-based delay work. Along with my MPC One+, I use two Boss DD-20s, which can generate delays of up to 23 seconds. The DD-20s have no MIDI in, nor do they officially have a CV in, but their tap tempo input (usually) responds beautifully to a CV spike to set tempo. I've been attempting to use the MPC One+'s control voltage outs to sync the DD-20s, but it ain't happening. Specifically, the DD-20s tend to jump back and forth, plus or minus up to 200 milliseconds, from the tempo/delay length they should be at. For example, I have a composition that is at 100 beats per minute, or 600ms per beat. The DD-20s should be in sync with an 8-bar phrase in 4/4 time; they should repeat every 19.200 seconds. They dance around from 19.1 to 19.3 (and all values in between), causing my precise rhythmic delay patterns to go out of sync and generate nasty glitchy artifacts.

I have tried several potential solutions on the MPC One+. I began with pulses of a single 16th note every 32 beats, and set the DD-20s' tempo to quarter notes. Glitchy. Then I tried pulses of a single 16th note every 8 beats, and set the DD-20s' tempo to whole notes. Just as glitchy. Then I tried decreasing the pulses' lengths to 64th notes. Just as glitchy. I am using good quality cables, by the way.

Also, I have previously used a Molten Voltage MIDI-to-CV converter (with a different drum machine as a master clock), and it worked really well.

Thoughts?

Voltage is too low? Or maybe the pulse is not steep (sharp) enough.

what if you just use a stick (sound) as a trigger for the DD-20s ? (from one of the analog outs on the One+)
-then you can establish if the sloppy AKAI timing is the issue or the CV/Gate outs voltage

so did you use a CV or Gate out from the AKAI ?

I've tried a 5v pulse and a 2.5v pulse. I don't think the DD-20 wants to see a voltage higher than 5v. It's not even officially designed to take a voltage spike - it's designed to take a short to ground via a momentary ground switch, but the CV workaround has worked in the past. And I get the same slop with 5v and 2.5v. And I've tried both 16th note pulses and 64th note pulses. You can't get much steeper than a 64th note. Same slop, same glitch.
