At this point I have to send my unit back but let me explain what happened. A few months ago I had some touch screen problems. I couldn't zoom in on sample edit mode without triggering something on the side of the screen, Sometimes it wouldn't work at all or it would freeze. Sometimes touch to begin at startup wouldnt work, My touchscreen was not working at all. Dragging start/end points was also unusable and very jumpy.

At one point it went away and started working fine but this was after i took out my sd card. Im using a micro sd w/adapter. For whatever reason it would work better with no sd card inside but after a few test the same probs would come back just not as bad. No clue how or why but it was working for awhile and BAM I got this same problem again but now it wont start properly. The bootup sequence now has the fan going off 4 times in a row, Screen flashing, struggling to get started. At one point it didnt turn on at all so I figured it was dead. I got it started it up again but this time the sequence had the fan go off 6 times in a row and it would put itself in Update mode. I have a few videos showing what im explaining above.

My unit is now declared unusable & I need to send it back for a replacement. Can I call Akai directly? I have the original box and everything. This was one of the units from the 1st batch so i guess i got a bad one. Im doing the online chatbot but I feel like this is gonna be a hassle. Has anyone had a similar issue or had to send their unit back? What is the process? Any help would be much appreciated.

Unless you have a separate warranty from the retailer, open a ticket with Akai and arrange for the repair/replacement. It will be a hassle, no getting away from that, so you'll just have to accept that. Warranty is great, but the reality is nearly always weeks or even months without a unit. Another option, if you can afford it, is to buy another unit while you wait for the repair and then sell one of them when the repaired unit comes back.

The SD slot has actually been the main problem. For some reason its making my Live have a mind of its own and being very unresponsive but now its even worse. Got a support ticket from akai, I just need to figure out how to send these 500mb videos to show whats happening

Was this under the 1-year warranty or after?

What country are you in, and when did you buy it? If it's the UK and you're within 6 months of purchase, then the retailer has a duty to repair (not themselves obvs for something like this), replace or refund. In practice, they would almost certainly give you a new one and deal with a return etc themselves. If they made a repair and it failed then you would be able to insist on a replacement or refund.

If it's over 6 months, then you have to show that the fault was there since purchase - I think the glitches you've described do that, and any decent retailer would honour the law and replace/refund.

(All this is in addition to any manufacturer warranty, which will still stand. In practice, your statutory rights with the retailer under the Consumer Right Act can make it quicker and easier to get something replaced when there's a fault.)

being in the "first batch" doesnt mean anything - this is not inmusics first foray into mpc's. its possible there are some ribbon cables that are notseated properly, OR as some have mentioned, the sd card slot could be faulty. ive never had any issue with thr sd slot and ive had every mpc inmusic have ever made, but the slot is delicate and if its loose it may be causing issues.

anyway, dont know where you are in the world, but as tutor states, open up a ticket asap. if you are in the US they most likely will have you ship it to nevada. if they determine its of a manufacturing defect, they will repair or refurb -- if they deem its user error, you are on the hook for the cost.

im sorry this happened to you and wish you a speedy recovery. :)
