At my wit’s end PLEASE help - MPC X

Hi all,

I was getting the error 71 on my Mpc x as well as failures on soundcard and connecting to the SD card and SSD.
I flashed back to 2.15 (among others) but the problem persisted.
All along I could use it for varying lengths of time with no incident (but a small rhythmic ticking sound). Sometimes I could use for an hour, sometimes not even 2 mins.
Eventually InMusic level ii support surmised that it was the main pcb carrier board as it handled the connection to external drives.
I had a broken usb-b port which made it seem plausible that something shorted out.
The support tech said that if the soundcard errors persisted, I might need the “PCB, REAR ANALOG ASSEMBLY“ or use with an external audio interface.
Well, I spent several hundred dollars on the first pcb. Enjoyed it for several days. Then I started getting some hiccups. Then the faint ticking.
Then the errors showed up. Eventually I shut it down, and ever since, I can’t get past the MPC splash screen. Can’t use the power button so I need to unplug it. It can take 20 seconds for the screen to turn off after disconnecting power.
No ssd installed. no SD or usb stcks. Nothing plugged into it at all.
Went back to 2.15. That completes and it just stays stuck on that same screen.
I even put my replaced the internal ssd with the own from my old pcb that was replaced. Same screen.
Any clues?
Anything and everything is appreciated.

Without looking at the schematics to trace.. its most likely a short or wiring problem.. sucks those boards are not cheap..

the carrier board is the main culprit for a lot of inmusic made mpc's. you may have a wire harness thats flaking out or a bad solder somewhere -- tough to say over the internet. as certified said the board aint cheap but they are al easy to replace as they are just modular. you can find a parts machine online and swap parts out or send it back to inmusic again.

if your unit is defective anyway, maybe you could flash a ssh-enabled firmware and maybe there will be some logfiles with more precise hardware-errors?
should be somewere near /var/log i think.
i even have no idea, if the system boots far enough for ssh.
if anyone knows better, please help out ^^

Sorry it didn’t work. I’d think twice about spending more money on repairs when a used X is around $600 and can be had with an extended 3 year warranty for about $100 more.

Did you replace both the usb and pcb board yourself?
This sound like what something loose i would take it apart again check all your cables to the pcb board and the Analog board something loose I would remove the cmos battery for about half hour t.. if your handy with a multimeter and could find the schematic prints check your voltages could be a short somewhere..
Can you get into update mode maybe put 3.9 firmware on it also . I would have to see a video definitely can be fixed since it worked for awhile im gonna say its something you missed..

Yai know. I had it sittin around for the longest time because I didn’t want to put any money into it for that same reason. In the end it just seemed like such a waste and that things my baby so I said screw it.

Ya I think you’re right. Yes I did it myself. I was crazy meticulous but I did notice that the wires weren’t looking all that great but i didn’t think it was anything that would cause a problem. I’ll go back and triple check.

I realized just now that my reply notifications were off. Man this community is great.

It fired right up the morning after I made the post. I realize now that it only hangs on the splash screen when it’s warm.
If I let it sit for 20 minutes it fires right up.. But if I run it for 20mins, shut down and try to immediately start it back up, it gets stuck again.
I’ll give it a third look-over when I return from vacation.
