I just purchased a used mpc2000. I've been through the manual methodically several times and still can't figure out how to build up tracks (ie: lay down a drum track, change midi channels, put down a bass track, change midi channels, lay down keys etc. I know this seems unbelievably fundamental, but I'm really stuck. I would eagerly purchase an mpc tutorial but the only one I've found specifies, that it's for mpc2000xl and says "not suitable for mpc2000" I've been searching forums for two days for the answer and I'm no closer than when I started.
this has been my basic approach:
1. turn on machine
2. load operating system
3. load sound files (three floppies drums, three floppies bass and keys)
4. select sequence 01
5. select track 01
6. select " drum 1A" which I assume means internal midi channel 1 A
7. record a 2 measure loop
now i have a drum track using the sounds from one of the programs that i loaded
next i go to record another part, so i advance to the next track, assign the next midi channel and so on.. but i can't use sounds from the other programs because when i scroll through to the other sounds it changes the sounds of the drum loop i just recorded at the same time.
I've been using samplers and midi devices for a long time and I've never run into this problem before. could i have some bizzare glitch in my mpc. I feel like I understand everything in this manual but I'm stuck at this ridiculous roadblock.
Please help,
forever greatful, tonyd
