Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Roundy Fri Feb 18, 2005 2:33 pm
I have searched for the answer to this question and found nothing. Last night I was making a beat in my 2kxl and I think I came out of the trim screen to main screen and it's like I miss pressed a button and I got all this code up on the screen.

The screen was full of numbers and it looked like it was the programming code behind the user interface, underneath the numbers where all the functions usually are step edit etc.. there were some options. One of them was RUN and SEQ and the others I cannot remember. I tried to get back to the main screen by pressing main screen but could not. I ended up turning the machine off. Was this what is know as a crash???? i am a little concerned as I have only had my MPC 5 months.

Anyone know what it was and could they explain it??

Thanks

did it work normally after you turned it back on? I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it starts happening repeatedly. I've never had that happen.

Ok I am aware of types of this screen, there is one you can view your self and come out of, (cant remember how to access it but u can exit it) and the other like what u mentioned is the 'crash' I've had my 2000XL for 5 years and it happens at least every month!

All I can say is save as you go because there are other things that can happen besides a crash like, power outages etc. so never take tings for granted.

There are random crashes in MPCs that occur from a combination of key presses - not sure if the new OS fixes any of the previous ones (I've never had a crash with 1.14, only 1.12).

I save my work every minute or so - just get into the habit.

I had that happen when I first got mine last year, it happened like twice.
I haven't had it happen again, knock on wood.
Just save on a regular and you should be fine.

It happened to me yesterday when I went to save a beat onto a different zip disk to the one I loaded it on....

There was definately no way out of it....I tried everything...

Had to start the beat again from scratch...

proppa bastud!

yup thats just the debug screen. just reset it and chill with the rapid button presses. And save alot like tutor was saying. i just suffured a massive crash with my mpc and my rack mount at the same time. i got real pissed.

Thanks for that guys, I was a little worried. I think I will start to get into the habit of saving my stuff every so often. But yes there were alot of rapid button presses going on before it did this....

Does everyone elses machine work fine after a restart?

Yeah man it works fine, and it does usually happen after rapid pressing, I know my way around my XL so much i go through those menus like I was tom cruise in that movie where they convict of a crime before u even done it...a bit geeky but u know what i mean!

Kool,

Thanks for putting my mind at rest I was more than a little worried that this kind of thing would happen on the regular.
