MAC MPC help!

Basically I am in the process of dumping my PC recording and stepping up to a mac. I was wondering if someone out there can help me out with some suggested programs and hardware interfaces to get audio/midi in and out.
1 rule, no PCI cards I want to stay straight firewire/USB for this, any ideas?
what about programs for sequencing?

Why no pci cards??? The Digi 001 would be the best all around option, and ProTools 6 on OSX is da shit. They just released core audio drivers so you can use the 001 for iTunes, Reason, Ableton, etc....they got excellent support, a big online community, etc.

And I dont know if you work with anyone but the dudes I work with are in LA and use a Digi002, so the PT format lets me send discs down there with no worries about compatibility, etc...plus every major mastering house uses PT....


2. Why would you want to sequence on a comp, you got the best sequencer in the MPC. =)

I totally agree with Mr Kas on this one for all the same reasons. I was gonna reply earlier, but the fact you ain't trying to use PCI cards will make it tougher & expensive.

You don't like cards, no problem. Get the 002(rack or mixer format). Both of them use FireWire. No need to crack the Mac chassis. Although, it is far easier to install cards into Macs than PCs.

hey foo, you gonna stay away from PT cuz i know you dont really support it. but i would suggest it, man. it is really, really easy to use, i think you know that. but you could get an mbox and then add another interface from someone else. i use the old version of the motu 828, its firwire and i like it better than the 001 cuz you have trim pots for all the channels(3-8 are ganged in stereo pairs). i like PT better for editing personally. i use DP at home to track, then create an OMF and bring it to work to mix in PT. i would much rather use PT to edit with. are you thinking of ditching some of the outboard gear too?
anyways, i havent used it but i have heard really good things bout logic and nuendo as well. since appple owns logic it may not be a bad option.

o i forgot to mention that the new 828 has midi i/o. how many ports do you need? if you want a stand alone midi interface the midisports are real tight. i use those at work and they are usb. pretty cheap too. we just got a 4 banger on ebay for 90 bones.

No disrespect Foo, but I am surprised that you're going Mac way. Glad to have you aboard. Since you've made it very loud and clear that you ain't trying to mess with Pro Tools, I suggest that you get with Digital Performer. It's a great program and the hardware sounds very good. it would rank it neck and neck with Pro Tools, but for the issue I address later. Their midi interfaces are great too. I have a MOTU Midi Express XT. The only problem with the company is their tech support has always been and continues to be BUTT!

In the meantime, dude us right about Digi001s. Since people are scrambling to go G5 and so on, folks can grab these monsters on the cheap. I've been telling everybody that I know. They'll be close to $500 in a minute. Last night's technology is always dope when it's cheap. You know that well, you mentioned that you use an ASR10.
