OK i was board yersterday so i made a booltege video explaining my set up for the newbs. I dident have anyone to record so i am recording and talking at the same time so please excuse the shaky camera work

lets say u had the mpc 1k instead is it pretty much the same way to hook it up as the 2000xl (excluding the usb capability).........ps..thanks for the video(great idea)

(stupid question),the motif sound generator,could u explain the the exact purpose of it. is it so u can get diffrent synth sounds from your keyboard?
i have a keyboard that can not export sounds,would your motif sound generator,be usefull in my situation,since i cant export any sounds out of my keyboard,(yamaha psr-292) all i use it for is to trigger sounds out of reason2.5's synthesiser, is that kind of what the motif sound generator does for your keyboard....could u give me the full name of your motif sound generator and also the sound card u use,im looking to up date my sound card.....if the motif sound generator does do what i explained then i may be able to use it for my keyboard to export sounds in to cubase sx1, and also use it with my mpc1k...thanks

1.YEs the MIDI set up would be exaclty the same with the 1000. Its identical.

Ur getting ur terms mixed up. BUt i think your on the right track. My motitf rack is just a source for sounds(just like your reason is). The MIDI controller has no sounds. It just sends MIDI signals to my mpc or my motif rack and plays the sounds in either of them. Kinda like a remote control.

I actually used to have the yahmha psr keyboard also. I just used it as a controller, it dosent matter what keyboard u used alsong as it has MIDI becasue MIDI is just DATA.

I dont know what u mean by expoert sounds into cubase, I just use cubase to record wav's or multi track.

your psr will be fine for triggering sounds in the Motif rack( or any rack or MIDI device).

THe full name is a motif rack, thats it lol

P.S dont jump on the bangwagon and buy stuff thati have or anyone else has, make sure u buy stuff that fits your style. Im a composer so i need a powerful rack like the motif. If your mainly a sampler u may not need something that expensive. U gotta do what fits you .

YEs, thats exaclty what i do. i usually just record everything as a big wav file so can burn it and listen on a CD

BUT when i take stuff to the studio i track it out(which is record each track sepratly) in cubase so the engineers can EQ it

Oh and one more thing, I have no sound modules, i know the MPC samples that are played are kinda short. What if i want to play a synth throughout a sequence, do i just need a sound module then? or should I just invest in a keyboard that comes with sounds?

First: Yes, u should be able to plug in the mointers into ur EMU1212, my m-audio firewire comes with a software mixer that allows me to route the audio signal to the apporiate outputs.(im sure the EMU has something similar

Second: mixer is a mackie DFX-12

Third:Well it depends, u can always sample sytth sounds etc. and u can do other type of sample editing but there is only so much u can do. The MPC is a sampler( a mediocore one at that) not a sytnh so if ur lookin to compose u should invest in a synth rack down the road. Personally i think its better to go with a rack and a midi controller rather then just using a keyboard workstation. THis is becasue u can add more racks to your set up with realtive ease, also racks are more powerful and when u buy keyboards ur paying for stuff u dont need(sequncer etc..) thats what ur mpc is for.


Make sure reseach what ur doing and dont just by stuff casue other people have it. I have my stuff set up to fit my specfic needs(im a composer not a sampler) u got to do stuff that fits you

Cool, but what If it wasn't synth I wanted during the sequence? What if i wanted to play an instrument, but wanted it to be longer and, wanted the notes to be consistent and not get distorted as i go higher in notes?
