Ebay

I've seen many MPC 4000's for sale on ebay for a much cheaper price than retail. Many are described as brand new and in a sealed box. My question is, would it be safe to drop $1800 on an MPC 4000 off of Ebay? or should I stay with the retail route? Let me know what you guys think...

If they have a lot of feedback you can buy with more confidence, just make sure you get a warranty and pray nothing goes wrong with the machine. Also if the deal sounds to good to be true it may very well be, you maybe getting a barebones version of the 4k for that price, so make sure you know which 4k model you need before you decide to buy. I believe there are 4 models of the 4000.

I APPRECIATE THE RESPONSE, BUT I POSTED THIS BACK IN JUNE. GUESS WHAT? I BOUGHT MY MPC 4000 OFF OF EBAY FOR $1956 WITH 400MB OF RAM INSTALLED. IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM. EVERYTHING IS IN PERFECT WORKING CONDITION. I CONSIDER MYSELF ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES....

Well, I got my x-demo from a shop in the UK for £950. Bought 512MB RAM and the newest Plextor CD/RW, installed em and now it works super! Total cost was about £1100 (~$1750). It's just about finding them for the best price!
