Warped Record

I copped a Jimi Hendrix record about a month ago and haven't had my stuff set up. So I go to play it and it is warped as a mo'fo. Any ideas on how to fix this......thanks

Materials needed to try to fix a warped record album:

2 14 inch pieces of 3/8" thick glass
2 large pieces of approx. 3/16" "place mat/craft" vinyl/foam
(4 -6 pieces if you want to make some for 10" records and 45s, too).
1 quality album sleeve (Discwasher VIP sleeves are the best)
5 pieces of cork
common household glue

You will need two (2) 14 inch square pieces of 3/8" thick glass. The green round things (see photo above) were picked up at a craft store and are about the size and consistency of a place mat at your table. In fact, that may be what they are used for (to paint/make your own). They are about 3/16" thick.

Trace a record album on both of the "place mats", then measure in and cut out the label section to create two flat doughnut shapes (you can also make some for 10" records and 45s). Cutting out the middle hole will allow for only the vinyl and trail off vinyl to be in contact with the 'place mats' (leaving the label untouched). The 'place mats' will sit/rest freely on the glass so that you can easily align them with the labels/trail off.

Use common household glue to attach five (5) pieces of cork on the bottom piece of glass to avoid any clanking when setting it down, plus it makes it easy to pick back up.

Make sure the LP is clean and put it inside a quality sleeve (Discwasher VIP sleeve, for example).
I generally use this "thing" outside, but have had excellent results in the oven at the LOWEST setting available. I feel 200 degree's is way too much. The real key is to use common sense as to how long to leave it outside or in the oven--usually 10-15 minutes suffices. Then I bring it in, set a 12" marble floor tile on the whole thing, and forget about it for a day (let it cool for a looooong time before you are tempted to take a peek).

I have had excellent results with this "thing", although in reality I've only used it 1/2 dozen times or so. I recommend practicing on old Mitch Miller lp's to get the feel of it. Hope this helps anyone with this problem. Best Regards, greyhavens

so has any one tried this, if you have how do the grooves come out melted or what,

that sites down you got this anywhere to see or or saved on your comp so i can see the pix that go along with this with it,

i've heard of this being done before and everyone says that they play fine. i also thought that the grooves would be all **** up but apparently not the case.

just curious have you tried it i 'm lookin for a testimonial,
i kno i aint got nothing to lose but i just want to see if some one has done it with there own and the result .

not that i dont beleeive you pad-ophiliac but i was reading up on it and i read this about the grooves and the grooves disappearing they stretch

If you have a warped record, take your turntable outside in the sun, and make sure its spinning..next, put the warped record on the platter and close the lid of your turntable..this s gonna warp the record more because there will be a lot of heat, and it will be a very heavy type of heatt, then open the top back up and you'll see the record go down, and become flat again...and make sure you DON'T put your needle on the record or you're just gonna **** everything up

...this is how da beatminerz fix their warped records, but only if it's badly warped

never heard of this, but im pretty skepetcal of it. I would think the wax would curl up like that.

I have heard submerging in very hot water then taking out and pressing flat with a weight on it does the trick....

I Have Heard OF This and EVEN USED IT ON A BADLY WARPED PIECE IT WORKED OK!!!!!!!

But The Pressed Glass I've heard was much better especially on light warp etc..................

sounds like it might work buts oudns sketchy,

i got the glass i'm going to try the glass method i have read this method in a doit yourself booklet you see at the grocery store, but that was many many many years ago , been lookin for it for a long time till i seen this on hear.

well i tried to fix a record the was prety warped yesterday, u trued this method of puttin the record in the sun between two pieces of glass. i left it in the sun frrom 12pm to like 73o but it didnt work out , nothing no change in the vinyldidnt warp any more or any less andthats that i had a piece of cinder block on it too to help flaten it out,


well i took it and placed it in the oven at 200 for 1min didnt do nothing,
so i raised the temp to 250 to 275, left it in there for 5 to 8 min and took it out and it started to do something to it,i tried it again a few sec longer or mins more and it straighten it out enuff , i realized that record i was tryin to fix was real phucken warped but i got it that straight, any ways here's how i did it


temp of oven @ 250-275

place record in oven with glass slabs (record in the middle of course)
let sit in there for 5to10 min.
what real works better is that you place the record in a sleeve and heat it like that,

then press with heavy weight.(i used two 2.5 gallon water jugs 1 gallon ways 8 pnds so figure that out for two 2.5 gallons) let sit till glass cools down ,

WARNING:
DO AT YOUR OWN RISK , USE COMMON SCENE ON COOK THE RECORD
IT MAY SOUND A LITTLE DIFFERENT BUT YOU DONT HAVE A WARPED RECORD ANYMORE THE GROOVE GETS STRETCHED DO TO BEING WARPED. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY UBWARPING.

i'm going to do some more today if , the weather dont get to hot around here.
