does any of the mpc 2000 range have compression

Man..you need to get an outboard eq/compressor..
there is no point to COMPRESS the gritty sounds coming out of an MP in my opinion not unless you in the studio about to mix..

it depends what you'd like to use it for. there are all sorts of compression techniques that can be used to good effect with the MPC (pumping, ducking, , de-essing, etc). could be great for taming a jumpy bassline or something else. the 2000xl doesn't include compression with the fx board, not sure about the 1000 or 4000. internal effects might not have the side-chain input and other options to make use of some of these techniques also. what are you looking to do? there's a handful of cheap outboard compressors on the market (alesis, behringer, etc).

To my knowledge none of the MPC,s have compressors.
Its best to go with an outboard unit. All compressors have a different color (sound/dynamic). you'll have to do some time with a few to learn what you like. When shopping , get a unit with class A circuitry. cheers guys! i know that outboard compressors are the the way to go but money is an issues at the moment i will only be compressing the drums when i mix my tracks

you can look on egay and find a small compressor man..

Like an Alesis Nanocompressor or something...

Alesis Nanocompressor is garbage... It does not do the same thing... If all compressors did the same thing then why would there be 50 dollar compressors and 3000 dollar compressors...

For a first buy I'd go with an inexpensive dbx compressor like the 266XL (my first compressor) just to get the basics down... If you can get good results with that then jump up to a nicer one... Class A Circuitry will give the best results, but sh*t is expensive... You wanna make sure you know what you're doing before you invest that kinda money...

i already have a behringer Autocom PRO-XL MDX1600 which i hate its cheep and sounds crap im saving for a tl audio Ivory 5021 Mk2 at the moment.
i am currently using an old s1000 and send all my drums through seperate channels into my desk i want to upgrade to a mpc 1000, 2000/2000xl or a s5000 to improve sound quaility i dont want to send all of my drums through the stereo outs so to compress all of my drums (i usually use all 8 outs of the 1000) i would need 4 stereo compressors i do intend to build up to that many comps or more but quality ones and the money isnt there to do that at the moment
