this is what I think and have been thinking since I started making MUSIC in the early 90s.
A beat maker can make a beat and blah blah blah, but a producer can make the track, mix it and still controll the maestro.
You feel me?
Maybe im not explaining it the way I think it.
That is the close as I can for now.

what ambush meant was if u are a producer u are also a beatmaker.. but if you are a beatmaker you aren't always a producer.. producing is knowing how to do the whole process to make a final product.. which means the person has to be able to make the music, then turn into a engineer and mix and master it...

Butcher,Aiightthen and Smoove all make good points.I think you have to create and mix to be a producer not just make beats.

How is the executive producer different from the producers of the songs? Like on the Black Album Jay Z and Dame Dash where the executive producers but they didn't produce any of the songs.

you dont need to make beats to be a executive producer .... what a executive producer does is make sure the whole album is perfect ... p diddy is a producer and he dont make beats he has beat makers under him that he takes their beats and puts his name on them

An executive producer be it music related or film usually refers to financial backing, eg Danny de Vito was exec producer on Pulp Fiction which meant he basically liked the script & bowled in with a load of cash.
Beatmaker is a producer, I cannot see a difference even if ya using spoons on ya thigh ya PRODUCING beats.
Really cannot see the difference, theres only different levels of producers i.e theres me and theres P Diddy.. ones just making a shed load more cash than the other
