Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By 777 Thu Feb 24, 2005 3:57 am
OK, I have an mpc 4000 and a yamaha motif classic. I just got a new Mac G5, an Mbox and Reason 2.5. I also have an old M-Audio 24/96 soundcard that I could use for the midi on the computer. Is there anyway I could hook this up where I could control Reason using the Motif AND the 4000, still be able to sequence the Motif with the 4000 and dump into Protools?

well for someone with such high class kit your asking a very basik quiestion :?

on top of it, it takes some effort to answear your q .. as your asking of to set up the motif and 4k to controll softwhare..
that has to do with what cc number your reason is using per function, you'll need to assign the same cc to that number on your Motif/MP

Motif midi out to midi in on MPC

MPC out to the Midi in on the Mbox

Mbox out into MIDi in 2 on the MPC

MPC Midi out 2 to the in on Motif

all audio into your mixer with record out to your mbox, Mbox out to your monitor in on the mixer

..the rest is internal configuration, sorry mate its not a simple q...

Audio Card to use for MIDI?????... I suggest you do a bit of research... midi and audio have nothing to do with each other.. If you have any questions, just ask or check some of the info on the newbie forum,,, it'll be quite helpful...

so, what your telling me is that the audiophile 24/96 doesn't have a MIDI port? I'm no newbie I just can't setup all this ish the way I would like it. I could hool it up like I've always had it and just dump into protools but, when I got the G5 my engineer told my I could control Reason with both the motif and the 4000 and still sequence into the 4000 with no problem. I got the computer home tried it and couldn't figure it out. So, I posted the question here thinking there might be some intelligent and helpful peeps on here. So far, I've had one answer saying it was a basic question and that guy thought an Mbox had MIDI and now some as_hole telling go to the newbie section and telling me my soundcard doesn't have a MIDI port. Thanks for the info guys and oh yeah go buy an mpc before you cats start poston on a forum dedicated to em.pssssssss.

ps, this message does not pertain to everyone.

I didn't say it's a basic question, I said its a basic question for someone with such high class kit,

and I actually did think the Mbox had midi in (most usb Audio interfaces do!!), so just consider it a spelling error on my behalf, no harm done, unless you spent hours trying to fit a midi cable into a audio socket on the mbox :)

and I don't that its a matter of: "there are no intelligent and helpful peeps around here", perhaps you'll find someone with the time that owns reason motif and mpc to write up all the cc for you, but I doubt it

I basically told you how to hook everything up, I assume you know how to set up the midi clock

perhaps if you post a more in-depth q and rephrase your question to one thing at a time we could be of more help

&
I don't think you can afford to be calling anyone an as hole around here :?

ok, thanks for the reply and i wasn't calling you an as_hole, i was calling the deaf mute or whatever one cause he was coming at me like i'm a dumbass. i appreciate your answer, which btw, was helpful. i ended up having the engineer who suggested the setup coming over here last night and hooking it up. cost me 50 bucks but oh well, i see now i need to study MIDI.
