MPC 4000 USB driver and Windows XP

My MPC 4000 just came in a week ago and I've started using it along with akaisys. This machine is absolutely spectacular. In order to transfer samples from my PC to the MPC, I needed the Windows USB driver for the MPC 4000. Therefore, I've downloaded the latest USB driver for the MPC4000 from the Akai Pro website and when I plug in the MPC 4000 USB cable to my PC for the first time, the PC recognizes it as a new USB device. After installing the driver, everything goes well. However, when I boot my computer up the next night and plug in my MPC 4000 USB cable, it still recogize the MPC 4000 as a new USB device and I have to reinstall the driver. Why do I have to reinstall the USB driver every time restart Windows XP and want to access my MPC 4000? Could there be a problem with Windows XP and certain USB drivers? Or could it be something I'm doing wrong? Just wonder if anyone else had this problem?

How many physical USB sockets do you have on your computer?

Usually Windows will indeed think it has to install the device for every physical socket (or every internal USB host controller instance), which can be a bit tiresome.

The secret is to always plug your MPC4000 into the same socket.


If you already are doing that, then I'm out of ideas...
Make sure you have all the gubbins from Microsoft Windows Update?

do you run the 4000 on OS 1.70 ?

Thanks guys. I didn't know the actual USB socket you plug the device into actually made a difference. I never had that problem with previous versions of Windows. I usually just plug the device in without paying any attention to which socket I use. I guess Windows XP is different. I think my computer has four USB sockets but there are also two in the front. I've been using the front sockets. Next time I plug it in, I'll try using the same socket and see if that makes a difference.

I'm still running my MPC 4000 on version 1.50. I haven't upgraded to 1.70 yet but I will. I think the Windows update upgrades are also a good suggestion. Currently the computer is not connected to the internet. I guess the only way I can get the updates is to put it online. First, I'll try using the same socket and upgrading the MPC 4000 OS, then get the windows updates as a last resort if all else fails to resolve the issue. I guess this is the price I pay for not switching to a Mac when I bought new computers last year!!!!
