SP/Dif

Does anyone know anything about sp/dif.I know it lets you sample at a higher rate but.....

1)How it that helpful?

2)How do you put it to use?(if you use it)

3)Does it transmit or receive video data?

Go ahead,laugh.I don't know everything but when i don't know i have to ask.So this may be a dumb thread but help me out.

It is a form of digital connection. You can only use the SP/DIF input on the MPC to sample from an SP/DIF output of another bit of equipment like a digital recorder or soundcard. It just gives you a clean digital transfer. I'm pretty sure it is audio only, not video.

it sends a clock along with it - so if you are using the SPDIF output on your MPC you will need to sync up your soundcard to it, oterherwise you will have a clocking problem.

Make sure to use a real SPDIF cable as well - not an RCA cable, otherwise you will lose the integrity of the clock and create problems. Coaxial cable might work for a short distance, but a nice SPDIF cable will be way better.
