sos from mpc1000 to big brother 4000

Whats up, I currently have a mpc1000 and love it to dealth so much so I am thinking about changing my set-up. i currently have a motif6classic,aw16g and the the mpc 1000. This is working real good for me right now and my beats making skills have grown up a lot. That said working with the mpc seems so much easier,faster and most important a whole lot more fun. After learning the motif and making some heat with it, comparing the two i like the mpc better as far feel and seqencing. It seems to me that if i could say fill up the Mpc with all the motif sounds then i would have the best of both worlds. My question to you guys is how long will this take on the 4000? Once its done could i say hook up the micron as a controller and play those sounds like a key board? Also could i also say sample th trinton rack and the fantom rack along with the motif would there be enough memory to hold it all?
Since you guys here have the 4000k would this move be worth it. I make hip/hop and i dont play the keys but i can make melodies with them very well. My second idea is to get either fantom xr rack,micron some expansion cards for the motif and xr and call it a day.

How many patches are you sampling? How many Samples per patch are planning on
using?

Those are all very relevant.

It takes about 5 seconds to Record a Sample of 1 key being pressed on keyboard
to being Sampled and Added to a Program. There is some kind of intellisampling ability
in the 4000, where after the Sample is taken, it retains the same name as previous
sample (to help naming things quicker), and has an option to add it to an existing program
or create a new program with it. So , just after taking the sample, of note C1 from
one patch, I can then have it create a program, and assign that sample to Key C1 on
that program. Then take another sample and do the same.


Then do the math.

Let's say you want to sample 4 Notes per Octave and you want to sample all 10 octaves.
you have 4 x 10 = 40 x 5sec = 200 seconds or 3 minutes or so.

Then take your 512 patches in the External keyboard and times that by 3 minutes

512 X 3min = 1536minutes or 25 hours.


That's if you are working efficiently.


So you'll have to decide if that time is worth it or not, or if you just want to by somebody
else's Sample CD that has already done the work.

Yes, but you can already do that on the MPC 1000.


If you need to know how, probably need to by the MPC 2000XL Beat Making book
from MPC Tutor which shows how to create Chromatic Programs for the 2000XL.
I'm sure the same technique would work on the 1000's drum program's as well.

Memory? If you mean harddrive space, then yes. If you mean RAM then
most likely not. It really depends on how much multi-sampling you do. If you are only
mapping 1 sample across the whole keyboard, then you will get more programs/patches
then if you are using 128 samples (all 10 octaves) per program or patch.

The Akai 4000 CD that comes with the machine has a very well sampled Grand Piano
that is about 256M (remember 4000 only has 512M). Takes up a lot of memory? Yes.
Sounds great? Yes!

making good multisamples from a rompler/ synth takes ages! Believe me. fastest way to make the programs is with a computer and than convert it to akp.

.. but I wouldnt do that if I were you.. I´d keep the Motif, keep the mpc1000 and do whatever you´re doin now

I feel you ikke this is why i have not changed yet. I was saying i love the 1000 so much that i would consider getting the 4000k and just using the mpc as my main sequencer. Thats why i wanted to know if it could handle all the sounds. if so then i could get a small keyboard controller i.e micron and then my setup would not take up as much space and be real portable.
Space is not and issue but to be able to take your set up from the bedroom to the kitchen or the living room would be real productive.
Anyway I will just keep what i have and add to my other needs for now. i am happy with my motif6,mpc1000 and aw16g. So far i have spent 4grand on equipment and there is no way i am going to take a hit just to get smaller and more portable. I'm looking to get one more rompler, guitar, and micron or microkorg or save up and get v-synth rack. Any suggestions or info would be great. thanks to all for your advice.
