hi-hats

whats a good hi-hat sound,i like the ones they use down in tha south,i guess its hard to explain,usually the ones in tha dirty dirty have the best sounding hi-hats(that nice clean cracking sound)which pro beatmakers do u guys think has the best sounding hi-hats???also what rap album has the best cracking hi-hats to sample from...thanks

I feel the same way. It's cool to me if a few people use some of the same stuff cause that can get creative and stuff but I've heard the 808's
SO MANY times I'm desensitized to the whole 808 thing now and I hate hearing everyone jump on the bandwagon. When I hear lil-jon stuff now I just shake my head and turn it off. I'm not knocking his talent, I'm knockin his overusage of the same stuff cause it got youngsters gassed in to thinking they NEED those SAME sounds...

you can get some pretty interesting hi hat effect by sampling and chopping static into very small ...real clean and interesting. add a little chorus on top and you get something kinda cool.

fair enough but i get a little pissed when im after a sound and peeps tell me not to bother as its already well established.....

Imagine people applied the same rules to gear. "Dont get the MPC, Dre already has it, get something else"

Its what you do with it that counts - I like new sounds too but u get my drift!

i dont disagree that such commenst shouldn't be made- they should its just ive been frustrated on other forums in the past where ive asked 'how u get that sound?' and they've all come back with 'be original'- if you wanna learn production techniques as well musical techniques achieving well established sounds can only help you learn...

That the truth....U can REALLY see how good u are at programming and sound mouldin etc when u try and recreate stuff -

I tell you what.....I obtained them Dre Menez, Neptunian and Timbolacious drum kits *** sorry warez talk not allowed.

I ran through em all and though there thousands of drums in there I really dont like em.

I agree with most of the above stuff - even the conflicting bits

I really like the 808 hats as they are so organic due to not being sample based (unlike the 909). Lovely lovely lovely... Saying that, I did sell my 808 once I got my Jomox xBase/Airbase.

The Airbase is about as cutting as you can get when it comes to HHs (or indeed any of its sounds). The HHs can be analogue noise, or a choice of 6 bit samples from the 808, 909, CR78 or some native Jomox samples. Additionally, the HHs have an incredible analogue VCA (VERY snappy) and a dedicated analogue LPF and HPF. There are 6 editable parameters for the closed HH, another 6 for the open, plus another 4 for the HH filter.

You really can not want much more then what is included in the Airbase when it comes to HHs.

Summary: If you want HHs with an attitude, avoid samples. I actually avoid samples for all my core drum sounds.
