MPC4000 On Its Way????

My Mpc (4000) is on its way, and will arrive at my door monday!

Im very excited. I have been using my mpc2000xl for ears and have produced many records with tons of names: The Game, Juvinille, Fat Joe, 50 cent, The Band.... etc.etc.

So hopefuly theres still cats active here tochat sh@t with about this beast, and build.
I have a few questions....

1. I have a very large akai collection (over 200 sample cds), what is the largest disk size the 4000 can handle. Id like to have all my sounds in the machine.

2. On the 2000xl, in the load menu, you can choose what to look at ie. just the midi files, just the pg files, just wave fiels etc. Is this possible on the 4000. This is a very important feature. I would of loved to test this, but as many know, there are no stores in Cali with it.

3. Have they actually got the virtual sampling working. ie. triggering and streaming samples from the disk. (like giga sampler)

4. Any new tricks on sending msb and lsb messages on the 4000.

Hey man. Congrats on the 4000,

People have had 120 gig HD's in the 4000. I bet it could handel a 200 gig no problem.

Load menu works the Same type of way you can choose what type of file.

Open the window on patch selection,

Turn on Bank select
Set The MSB
Set the LSB

How do you know what the midi module MSB or LSB is?
Check your manual of the bank you want to control
The EMU mods are like this
Bank Selet ON
MSB 0
LSB 1 THROUGH 4 (change in between all 4 banks ABC@D)
Exit out of the window and scroll through the sounds.
All EMU mod work the same

My Virus C works the same as The EMU
Banks Select ON
MSB 0
LSB 1 THROUGH 4 (ABCD)

My Roland works like This
Bank Select ON
MSB 80 through 85
LSB 1 through 5

I change expansions through the MSB
And Banks through the LSB

If your unit comes up with not installed its because your trying to
access a slot that has no expansion mod in it.
Like if you have a protuess and your trying to control but you pick
a expansion slot thats has no rom.

When you save your seq, it will call up all the right patchs next
time you load it. Works perfect and it really makes a diffrence.
Check out the manual of the unit you want to control it will give you
the correct MSB and LSB to work with.

The maximum capacity of the hd in the mpc is a 120 GB!

I don t know for sure about that drive maximum size but I gues it's 127
GB due to some "computer" limitations

maybe some people tried to partition a hard drive into two partitions, like say, one of 80GB and another one of 120GB, that might work

Well, the maximum size is 127G because of FAT32 limitiations. Don't like
that, go bug good ol Bill Gates for that (at some point they thought WHO
would need 127G!).

Partitioning on a computer into seperate 120 segments, most likely will
work but you'll have to give it a try.

Also, you can remove the internal CD-RW and put another 120G in there.
So a total of 240G internal is available if you don't try the partitioning trick.

Then you have to rememember that you can also hook up 6 120G SCSI
drives externally and also up to 128 120G USB 1.0 drives externally.

That gives a total possible of 16080G of Harddrive space with NO computer
hooked up, or 16 Terabytes!

Try that on any other non comuter based Samlpler (other then Z4/Z8/S-6000)

In regards to question 2, you can use "filters" to only see certain types
of materials. Also , when you try to load a Folder, it will ask if you want
all, or if you just want samples, or programs , or multi's and such....

Thanks alot for all the replys. All my minor come ups in production have happened very recently. ALot of the stuff I have done has not even been released yet. Truthfully the beat game is all hustle. You cant just be in the lab. YOu either have to go out and make relationships, get a manager thats worth his weight in gold, realease projectsa yourself, do studio time to attract clients, and a combination of all of the above. All this while keeping the sh*t banging! Its a tuff game. But we love to make music? Wich is why we do what we do.

SInce I decided to get a 4000, I havent been able to make anything, uninspired becuase of the anticipation. ANd Ive got projects on my table! Its like the night befor christmas. Im expecting the 4000 to be my magic bullet. Especially with the internal one machine storage for all my sounds. And no more computer..... I really like to do my stuff on some type of hardware, in my experience software just doesnt give me the "sound". Programs like reason though they sound okay, and the functionality is cool, they just tend to sound a bit thin. And saving is a b*tch, especially when you got modules, keyboards and software going, so a central place to save everything is ideal, when you want to keep the vibe going and knock out 5 a day.

Excuse the long post, Ill be sure to everyone interested know what I think of the beast when I get it. 2 days left till lift off.

well get put in some work on that manual and go through the newbie bible above ^^^ and read up on everything in there. It might be a lil while before you make a good beat again because of the learning curve but it well worth it in the long run because not only can you appliy alot of what you are going to learn on the 4k but you can take that knowledge and use it to create Synth ARP, Filters , and some software, Good Luck wit it

Charlieocali hey man there is so much deepness on the 4k it will be fun for you to learn all about it. Get Aksys and run the 4k in tandem with your computer using a cool program like Recycle to chop up your samples. What kind of other programs or hardware are you using to make beats?

Right now im using.

Mpc4000(hehe), Roland 5080, korg Triton, Yamaha Motief, Reason, Recycle, Pro Tools, and over 200 Akai cds....

Holy Mother of God Machines!

I just got my MPC4000 and I feel like Homer Simpson in front of the NASA control panel! Ahhh... DUH... it took me 2 hours to get a sound out of this thing! Load sounds, create program, assign pads... GEESH!! I mastered the Ensoniq ASR-X, and I know I can handle this puppy, but holy ****... I'm in for some serious self training.

SO... the Newbs Bible here is nice for pointers, but I wonder if anyone has found any great tutorials specifically for the 4000 to accent my RTFM sessions?? A nice video lesson or anything would be incredibly useful to just learn how to walk.
