I need a consensus on tempo and or swing / groove......

Ok here is the test I wish for you all to conduct:

0- create a new sequence - name it 16/88/67 - beat / tempo / swing
1- set the tempo to 88bpm
2- create a simple beat pattern - give it a few ghost notes on the kicks (oO)
3- adjust time correct to 16 beats
4- adjust time correct swing % to 67
5- play the beat loop
6- listen to the swing/groove


7- create another new sequence - name it 8/176/67 - beat / tempo / swing
8- set the tempo to 176bpm
9- create the exact same pattern as the previous (remember - simple!)
10- adjust the time correct to 8 beats
11- adjust the time correct swing % to 67
12- play the beat loop
13- listen to the swing/groove

14- now go back and forth between the two and please tell me if you notice any differences at all. Anything you might pick up perhaps in the way the softer ghost note come before the kick on the 1 downbeat or something like that would be helpful.

I'm trying to figure out whether the tempo (double time) effects the swing in anyway on the MPC-60 as it does on the sp-1200.

Perhaps those of you that own CUBASE VST can possibly export the midi data or simply record it from the MPC-60 running the same two tests and see if they notice a difference or change in note arrangement.

OK I just did your test, my beats sound the same under both conditions, but the same beat will most likely.

I can't say I hear a difference clearly, but I like the feel of the second one better, even though they are the same.

That is the mistake and difference in the sequences. If you double the tempo then the bar is 1/2 the length in time. 67% is not going to occur at the same time for both. If you double the tempo then I think you should 1/2 the swing.

It may help if draw on paper what your instructions are doing. Then you can see the difference.

Nah dude. That's why with the one you're using 16th notes and the other setting you're using 8th notes. Read the description.....It works just the same believe me....that is why I'm asking for your assistance. I can't really tell the difference and figured it would help if I had opinions from other ears.

The SP gets crazy when you work with double time swing. If you set the tempo to 88bpm on the SP and try swinging at 67% your sh!t will sound like a jazz band on Soma.

If you set the tempo to 176bpm and 67% then you get that raw swingy hiphop feel that everybody rocked in the 90's. That is why i'm conducting the test. I know the SP has an entirely different sequencing engine, so I figured if it affects that system maybe it would have a similar effect on the MPC.
