Yes and yes.

It is not worth it. The MFC42 looks wonderful mounted atop the MPC, but it does not live up to its promise. You can do FAR more sound manipulation with a software application. Don't waste $400 on this toy. It has limits. The best you will be able to do with it is alter the sound similar to what is in the demo at www.vintagesynth.org -- and that is after you spend weeks learning how to use it. As for the owner's manual, it is one of the worst ever written--all sound theory that we have read before, yet almost nothing about how to operate the unit. By the way, it is truly analog, so you have to let it warm up a bit and then tune it.

SOS magazine had a review of the MFC42 a while back. They made a point that is especially important. The resonance control is nonlinear and sensitive at one end. Watch out here! If you are wearing headphones, sooner or later a high pitch sound is going to blast your eardrums. I have done it a few times. Send that same signal through your amplifier, and the tweeter speakers will get blown instantly.

Any proper analog filter will. It's called self-oscillation.

But they are NOT analog and you can't really carry software on stage.

I have owned many filter units and the MFC is the only one I ever kept. Solid construction, good sound and tremendous sonic possibilities.

It doesnt cost 400$, I bought mine for 248Euro that is abot 260$ and its worth it. I think its very easy to learn with no menues, I dont need the manual...
If you are looking for a real analogue filter its the filter. Perfect for house loops.

just a question.....where can i get those rackmount brackets that is holding up the mfc 42? are they only specially made for the mfc 42?

i don't have the mfc42.... but i did a search for you.... here's the kit with all the brackets, etc for the mfc filter...you can cop them here.... you can look for a cheap price if there is one...
