MPC 4000 vs. Roland MV 8000

FIRST OFF 'WHAT'S UP' MPC USER'S,I AM A MV8000 OWNER AND WAS A OWNER OF THE MPC AND SP12+1200 WHEN THEY ALL CAME OUT IN THE 80'S.LET ME KILL THIS DEBATE ONCE AND FOR ALL.I AM NOT BIASED TO MPC USER'S BECAUSE,I USE TO BE ONE WITH A S950.AKAI IS'NT WHAT PEOPLE THINK,HOW MANY TIMES DID THEY UPGRSDE THE 2000 OR XL?THEY DON'T SHOW LOYALTY AT ALL THEY PUT THE 4000 OUT TO FAST AND LOOK AT IT OS WAS'NT RIGHT.ROLAND AIN'T TOP DOG EITHER BUT AT LEAST THE KEEP THEY SITE UP AND RUNING WITH UPDATES.NOW TO THE MACHINES;PEOPLE LIKED THE MPC'S BECAUSE THEY WERE SIMPLE TO USE AND THE SO CALLED SWING WHICH WAS BECAUSE OF A SLOW PROCESSOR.AND IT SEEMLESSLY LOOPS LONG SAMPLES TO MEASURES THAT YOU CAN'T TELL IT'S LOOPED.BUT THE MV CAN DO THAT TO PLUS STRECH IT TO ANY TEMPO .BUT WOULD YOU COMPARE A MPC TO LOGIC
OR PRO TOOLS?NO BECAUSE THERE IS NO COMPARISION BECAUSE LOGIC AND PRO TOOLS AND MOST SOFTWARE SEQS HAVE LINEAR SEQS
SAME AS THE MV8000.ROLAND HAS TAUGHT PEOPLE HOW TO USE SOFTWARE SEQS IN A HARDWARE BOX WITH THE MV.AND THE MPC IS A PRODUCTION CENTER AND THE MV IS A PRODUCTION STUDIO SO WHICH WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE.THE MPC IS GOOD AT MAKING BEATS AND CONTROLLING MIDI GEAR AND THAT'S IT.THE MV CAN DO ALL THAT AND MORE.THE MPC4000 AND THIS MACHINE ARE DOING SOME OF THE SAME THINGS BUT FEATURE WISE THE MV DOES MORE AND TO BE TRUTHFULL, THEM ALL IN ONE BOXES USE TO HAVE THINKING LIKE OK YOU GOING TO LOSE OUT ON SOMETHING BECAUSE BOXES CAN'T DO EVERYTHING.BUT THIS BOX DOES BELIVE ME MOST PEOPLE ON MV8000 FORUM ARE X-MPC USERS.LET ME ASK THIS QUESTION,WHEN THE MPC4000
CAME OUT AND NOBODY HAD IT AND PEOPLE SEEN THAT CD BURNER ON
IT WHAT'S THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO PEOPLES MIND WAS THAT
I CAN BURN MY BEATS TO CD WITH THIS BUT NOPE YOU CAN'T AND THAT WHAT I MEAN ABOUT AKAI,ANOTHER THING WHY DID THE MPC3000
HAVE VGA CARD AND THE 4000 DON'T?THATS BACKWARDS AS HELL.
LOOK IT IS ALL ABOUT PREFERENCE TO ME,I LIKE HAVING A MACHINE THAT CAN SIT IN MY STUDIO AND CONTROL IT AND BEING ABLE TO TAKE THAT STUDIO WITH ME TO MY COUCH WITH JUST SOME CDS AND
MAKE A WHOLE BEAT PLUS RAP TO IT AND BURN ACD BY JUST SITTING ON MY COUCH THE CHOICE YOURS OVER THIS DEBATE ON WHICH IS BETTER .

this is truly a dead fish in the water.

I as well as many others no longer care about which is better

they are too different machines and as long as you are happy doing your thing on either one its all good.

but to be real the mv 8 came out alot later than the 4k and should be so much further ahead of then 4k its crazy. I mean only 8 anolog outs??? the 4k goes up to 10 the mv should have came with expandable option of at least 16....... not 8
but what ever it doesnt matter they bother are all good for what they can do

Another wet dream I got a idea for a useful thread let`s ask who do you think really makes good music with thier tools at hand. Be it a S950 or SP303. Name your favorite song and how was it made? How did the artists utilize the tools at hands? How good was the craftmanship and production of the engineer, producer or the artist how they push their tools and craft to the max? And how can we get to the same level and leave the gear geeks fighting over specs and what is the newest. **** the dumb sh*t talk about songs and how the tools were used to make them.

If I buy a oven(tool), It is to make cakes(music). Not to argue which oven uses electricity or gas? How many grills is has on the range? As a former consumer of the cakes (music buyer) I only care if the cake comes out good or not.

Since I have eaten great cakes in the past, present, and the future I will go to my favorite bakery(record store), check what tools were used to bake the cake (look on back of the credits and articles on the producers), buy them(gear) and do my best to learn the reciepes(techniques, theory, and tricks, get the understanding of baking(production), and eventually open my own shop(records). It`s simple let the kids nag who`s got the biggest, and newest oven(Korg, Akai, Roland, Nord and whathaveya. I want my cakes to be 100% authentic using traditional tools it is my preferences. I love I wanna get to know you, Grind Date, Back in the days, and Do you) Be yourself and make your cakes great!!!!


Coming back to this I never see a 4k users running to a MPC 3000, Triton, Fathom, or Motif owners to say this is this and that is that because if a beat competition was made that ass would be tore up cuz most of the users would know their craft and tools inside and out. So why the craziness over what some nuts who`s CD I never heard and most likely ever buy recommends that I buy such and such gear. Who cares!!! I`ll buy the music if its cool, if its good.

Personally ever major R&B. neo-soul, Dance oriented artist and group`s music I have bought were either mpc programmed, asrX, Triton, motif, and sp12 influenced. So that is why I keep with the old mpc cuz master chiefs made masterpieces with it.


I don`t care for JD or Van Armanda`s production or sounds either. If you got some banging beats I might listen but besides that it just hot air.


Sh`t anyone can spend money every few months from the NAMM of the year.

Do you mean Armand Van Helden (who they're pushing on the MV site)? As somebody who's been into House, Techno, Electro and such since 1987, it really doesn't matter what product he uses. He can use Pro Tools, he can
use Nuendo, he can use the MV, he can use the MPC 4000 or what ever. His music sucks!

They might as well get Vanilla Ice and have him promote their products As he's one of
the Vanilla Ice's of House....

Read before ya run off with the mouth over some new gear you bought. To ex users and the newbies with zillions of questions..

when will it end.

Ok all in one workstations are great. that said they still need to be built up either with expansion cards,more outs, memory cards,memory and so on. After that depending on how serious your are about your craft and the gear lust you are going to have you will buy more gear. that being said look at your set-up and the cash you will have to spend and base your purchase on that. Forget about the next best time if you already have something that does the job AND YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT. One thing about new gear is the learning curve and how much time its going to take anyway from making beats. Myself i have a motif6 classic which was my first big purchase before it i had a dr202. i got the motif because it was a workstation and i could do alot with it and i knew it would be a while between my next buy. next i got the aw16g recorder then speakers and a mic. The mic was rode nt1a and speakers studiophilebx5 they have this funky little light on them and i got them for 75 used. my last purchase was the mpc 1000. I will be geting a micron and more me thats all i will need. For me thats my complete studio. Ok i do want to learn how to play the guitar. anyway I say this to say define what your needs are and fill the gaps. myself i love the mpc4000 but for me the motif was a smarter buy for income reasons. The mv8000 came out and its dope as Sh*t but i already had the motif and the aw16g so i really didnt have a need for it.
As for the Mpc 4000 i think it over priced and it should be at the price point of the mv8000. Anyway what ever you have just make the hots and all you fellow beat maker with the 4000 or the mv 8000 you all are very
lucky.
