loops vs one-note-sounds

do you guys use mostly loops or one-note-sounds?

i like the idea of only using one-notes and do it a lot BUT
1. the mpc isn't made for multisampling, you'd need a "proper" sampler for doing this really well and it sucks to place single notes of one instrument over two or three pad levels
2. if you chop, say, a rhodes solo most of the sounds aren't single notes. two or more sounds overlap and so on. but even if it works fine there might be the problem that
3. if you sequence single sounds it'll sound sorta robotic.
my experience is that it pays to use one-note-sounds to spice your track up a little and to be able to work more freely BUT still i feel the need to use little loops here and there to add some feel - even if it's just a one bar hi-hat loop or some sort of glockenspiel in the background.

Well, the MPC wasn't made for loops either. If you want loops, get a loop player. A real looper will stomp the MPC in the ground any day when it comes to handling loops.

Depends on the creator. Someone had to create what you consider to be non-robotic loops and there is a chance that they were on drum machine with single hits. They did it, I do it, why can't you?

I am mostley with the one shots..

for the drums i never use loops I ALWAYS chop!! with loops i feel i cant do much about variations..but for example intro's i can use it..a intro and then a beat switch that shit i like!

and i use always vocal samples..that shit is so dope..sometimes you can't even hear them good but it's still there!!

i got some all my 4 banks full with little chops of diff instrumewnt 'n shit

so on an average how many pads you have loaded per pgm.
i have maybe 12 sounds throu out the 4 banks.

i use some single notes for my drums and sometimes i use a loop for drums i depends for me on how i feel to make a song. if i feel lazy then i sample a good drum loop, if i feel like making something breakful then i use the single notes and some sample for my melody.

I always use one shots for drum programming, and obviously layering my drum sounds.

Sometimes I mess with one note for playing basslines and keys, but I prefer to chop up pre existing phrases and rearrange several isolated notes I chopped up to create new melodies, rather than mess with one note because changing the tempo on it can sound choppy.

One note can work well sometimes but you can't really go too far outside the original sample tempo without it sounding like shit, so you really need to spend a lot more time fine tuning each sound for it to work well like that.

that's just the way i do it and i never use drum loops except the abovementioned hifrequency loops (can be hihats, birds anything) for some background noise.
also i sometimes chop whole 4 bar soli which easily fills two banks, replay the loop first and then try to rearrange it. that's were these annoying gaps and clipping sounds occur - provided that i edit all the samples in the 2k only without timestretching or anything. anyway, i do like it.
i love choirs looped to infinity, too.

I'm all about one-shots

one chops and mini phrases for me. i love putting a sample in mono mode and see what kind of melody i can come up by switching up the little two or three note phrases out of the original big phrase.

one shot drums, sometimes layering, sometimes not.

one shot synths, sometimes make my own loops on triton/asr and use
on the MPC. Sometimes I make bass/ryhms with autochromatic/16levels.

RARELY use other loops cause I like to create my own.
