Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By1stBorn Tue Sep 02, 2003 9:55 pm
I'm new to this group, seems like it really nice. I just started producing and I want to get everything that I need. I've purchase the Korg Triton, and thought that might be enough, but everyone is telling me I need a MPC. Can someone tell me just what they do. Hope this isn't a silly question, but I need a lil help.

I dont know what the Triton does cuz I dont have one, but the MPC will pretty much do everything you need to do to make tracks. It will sample any sound you could send into it, edit the sounds (i.e. cut, envelope, pitch adjust, stretch (XL version), sequence and play them out however you want. For me the MPC is necessary to make beats.

Welcome ,this is a good place for beginners and pros. The triton is a good place to start with for producing. A Mpc would be nice to have , but not required. it would be best if you first learn how to work that triton to its fullest before getting another device to learn, although the Mpc is very easy to learn. It also depends on how you approach doing your music. For example, are you using samples , are you using one shots or loops , do you have a computer, there are a millions options and yu will get a million different answers each time you ask that question. Hope I helped.

Platinum,
Thanks for reply, it helps somewhat. To answer some of your ?'s, I do have a computer. I run my Triton to it and use Sonar. I haven't figured that out all the way either. I haven't done any sampling and yes I do loop things but it's pretty easy with the Triton. I just know that everywhere I look i see a MPC so. Thanks

Its like you can make good music without a Mpc , but if you have the money grab one. You can do the same stuff with sonar and a triton, but it will take more effort. I love my Mp and wouldn't trade it for nothin....except maybe a better mpc.

Triton can do everything the MPC can do and alot more. The MPC sequencer is way easier to learn and get a grasp of, more people love the MPC because of the easier sequencer, the drum pads are easier to tap out beats than keys on a keyboard. That's the reason why u see so many MPC's around.

i would say.. .if your into playing the keys fluently then the triton was a good purchase....
.
and if your into sampling with limitations that force you to be creative, and you love expressing your drums and samples by bangin pads... the mpc2000xl and up is a good purchase...
.
.
you can also have the best of both worlds with both pieces....
^... drop some basic drums... cop a sample....flip it on the mpc...
and add some keys effects gained from the triton....
,
^thats illness to me...

.shit... i need a triton... but i won't cop it till i learn some music theory with my midi controller hooked to my pc.

Good idea, cause I know alot of people that ended up with a triton and nver dug dep into it and now wanna sell it. I've created stuff using triton only and they were amazed. I've created stuff using MPC only and they usually cannot tell the difference. I've midied them together and it was pure bliss. MPC is definitely easier to bang out drums and seq, but u cannot miss with way more extensive keyboard sounds and synth creation included when adding the triton to your rig. I got a Triton 61key classic, ASR-10 and MPC2kxlse2 w/ZIP250.

"Triton can do everything the MPC can do and alot more:"
Not exactly true Lampdog, the have two different purposes as you know because you have them both. Each has its adv and disadv. Mpc can have 64 midi channels -32 ex and 32 in . Triton has what 16 total.
Small but Big difference. Triton has built in effects and sounds, and a full function sampler right, Mpc no effects and a basic sampler. Now i am sure you know all of this, I can tell by your choice of equiptment , but 1stBorn is new and we gotta help him out so i am just trying to keep them facts straight. I like them both , hey 1stborn have you checked out 1 of the triton forums , that would probably help too! Yes! If you keep the triton get deep into it. The mpc is a beast. Can lose with either really. Good luck Homey.

I wasn't thinking about many of the intricacies in the heat of the moment. Your right, I should have given a better and more in depth answer instead of spouting out and junk. Sorry about that 1st Born. Yeah, they are for different purposes. I was just thinking basic sampling junk. Next time I'll be scholarly with it. Triton has 2 master effects and 5 Individuals right out the box. MPC2k and 2kxl need the effects card. Triton has 16 midi chnls. MPC has a much more robust 32. Triton is a keyboard so that goes without waying it can do keyboard specific stuff like Synth creation and modification. hope thats better..

So would I be right by thinking that I can get by with just the Triton, but if I want to make the beats sound better then the MPC is the route that I should go...also if I'm going to be doing any sampling? Thanks for the advice by the way. I appreciate it.
