You can't believe everything you hear/read. Even so, your mpc might not be able to support that speed to begin with so you will never get that speed anyway.

Well, as I've stated above, on my card (the slower of the 2 I linked to), I got the 10mb WAV in or out of my computer in well under 4 seconds, which indicates a speed upwards of 2,5mb/sec. I'm pretty sure that other card that claims a speed 4 times higher will indeed be even faster.

I was talking about an IDE cardreader, but yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. I said the bottleneck has to be in the MPC(OS) itself, not in the card, and probably not in the reader. The much faster time transfering the same file from the same card to a computer over USB2 proves this. This means it would be useless to spend more cash on a faster card, except for when you're transfering files to/from a computer.

Aaaaaaaaanywaaay..... The floppy drive on my SP1200 is a lot slower. :)

I do not understand your test results. So the people that tested the cards for a living are lying about the 1.5Meg/sec transfer rate?

Dude, I don't know. All I know is 10mb in 4 seconds equals 2,5mb per second. That's what I'm clocking when I put my card in my USB2 reader on my PowerBook. And like I said, my card isn't even a very fast one. The _claimed_ speed of the new cards is 4 times higher than the _claimed_ speed of the one I'm using. I know that doesn't say much, but I'm pretty sure the new cards _will_ be faster. I might get one this week and let you know.

I haven't done any extensive testing, just that one file. I don't really care about more exact figures or better tests, as it is obvious the bottleneck is in the MPC - as long as the card is faster than the MPC's max transfer rate, it doesn't matter if it can do 5mb/s or 500mb/s.

It is likely "bursting" a 4 meg file in <.5 sec (advertised speed) and then transferring the other 6 Meg over the next 3.5+ seconds, which is <2 mb/sec.

Jus try it again with really large files, I am pretty sure what you will see will be close to what I and others find in the real world. The larger files offset the burst gimmick transfer.

See, you're probably right about everything. I'll get a fast card anyway, so what if it costs a little extra. As far as the MPC goes, I don't really care about large files because I never, ever use any. Whole songs on the MPC hardly ever take up more than 5 or 6 megs for me, so imagine what the individual file sizes are like. Come to think of it, lately I've been doing most tracks in under 384k on the SP. :)
