Help with MIDI...Micron + MPC 60

hey guys, I just got a Micron to mess with and I have it MIDI'd up with the 60. I'm controlling the Micron from the 60, but I ran out of programs on the 60 (128) to control all the MIDI stuff and don't know what I should do about that?

next, I want to use more than one sound from the micron, so I went to the next track and chose a different program, but when I did, the first track played the program I selected from the second track.

Lastly, is there any way that I can play the keys on the MICRON(instead of the 60 pads) and record what I'm doing and have it loop with the 60? I would have to record a sequence with a matching BPM of the 60 and sync them up?

Andreas how did/do you have your Microkorg hooked up?

uh instead of program, goto midi. So midi: device 1a. Then u have 16 parts.

OK, I don't get what you mean that you ran out of PGM 128 ?, but this is how you do it.

OK, midi out cable from the micro to the midi in,

Midi in cable from the micro to a midi in port on the 60 (in A if you aren't using it already).

In the Micro, turn local off, this means that the keyboard won't play the sounds, but will send midi, which the MPC will pass through to the micro and be able to record what you play.

in the MPC Midi settings, turn soft thru to ON.

In the Micron, set the midi channel to 1, and figure out how you getinto multimode and make each part go in order, midi channel 1, midi channel 2, midi channel 3 for part 3, etc. Not sure how multitimbral it is, but check your manual.

in your 60, make a beat then go to a new track, and set the DRUM field to MIDI, and then set the midi channel (bottom left of main screen) to 1A. When you do this the keys will play the sounds in the micron, when you are on a regular drum track (not midi) the keys will play your mpc samples, each key corresponding to a pad. COngratulations, you now have a midi controller.

Take it slow and you'll get it.

elmacaco just set it straight. I actually need another midi cable so that I can play the keys instead of hitting the pads for the micro. Yo, is that micron that red synth? how much did you pay for it?

Andreas- the Micron is pretty much the same deal as your Microkorg with some advantages and some not so great...less knobs etc. People say it doesn't sound "hip hop" but I don't mind. Some of the albums I've been bumping are crazy synth style...Slum Village "Trinity" and The Foreign Exchange

I got it mainly because I'll be working Parasail boats in Myrtle Beach, SC this summer and I'm going to have a small setup (no MPC 60 ) but I'm going to get one of those new Tascams digital 8 track recorders, the micron, an SP303, and maybe a portable turntable to make beats...trying to make a whole album while at the beach.

I got it off Ebay from a guy and it's just like new...for 325 shipped priority

So Slum village is dope? Didnt Dilla do work on that?

dilla was part of slum village. He did production and rhymes on fantastic vol. 1 and fantastic vol 2. He left the group later on and didnt work with them on Trinity. At least not to my knowledge. I think they are wack without dilla though.

I had an SP505 but I sold it to get the Micron, but I'm going to get a 303 when I leave this summer to do my sampling and drums...the sequencer on those things are kind of a pain though...at least song mode is..real tedious

I still like their new stuff though, Trinity is all synthy, weird disco type beats but I love that cd for some reason

The newest one is okay but not as dope as the others before it, you should check them out though

word up on that. The 303 has a sequencer but its a ****, I just use the 60, i'd be stupid not to, since it's the best sequencer known to man(as are all the mpc's).
Did Dilla use his microkorg on those slum vill;age cd's. I've always wanted to hear them sh*ts, never got around to it.

as far as I know, Dilla only used the microkorg on the new Jaylib joint, peep the one with Kweli, but I'm pretty sure Sallaam Remi uses it as well as some other cats...

I'll let you know and post some joints on it once I put my time in, school is crushing me right now though

Okay, I'm having a little difficulty doing this, tried to do it last night but couldn't get it.

the micron only has 3 midi ports, 1 out, 1 in, and 1 through...we all know what the MPC has...

the way I set it up last night, was creating a midi loop I believe, MPC out to Micron in, Micron out to Midi in and it didn't work

the way I read your help Elmac help was as if I had two midi in's on the micron which I don't

I'm patient and took a good bit of time with it but just couldn't get it

Read it again, no two ins required on either machine.

So MPC output A to Micron input.

Micron Output to MPC midi in A.

Set local to off on the micron,

Set soft thru to On in the MPC,

Set midi channel on micron to channel 1,

Set up a track as midi 1A,

Change track type from drum to Midi (on the right of the main screen, just below the middle line.

Connect audio outs of both machines to a mixer then to speakers or headphones.
