MPC 3000 Vs. MPC 4000

I Don't know check My man in the Photo to the left, He's been Bangin out some Hot Tracks on the MPC 4000. Plus, It's gotta be nice to have a full Sampler with LFO's and Timestretch. Think about it?

I like my samplers because I don't have to look at the screen for more than a few seconds at a time to do what I gotta do. The all in one approach may be for some, but not for me.

I have a 3000 too.
Love it.
Although, I am envious of the features of the XL, 4000 and 1000.
I'm still sticking.
Budget won't allow too much pioneering.

Anyway, if I was making my very first gear purchase now, I would go for the 4000.

yo does the 4000 have a built in cd burner|?

There are several models of the 4000, the 4000 plus and studio D comes with a burner standard.

Does it burn audio or just save data?

it just saved data, it was SUPPOST to burn audio, but not as of yet.. gotta go for the MV for that ish..

the 3000's shine is the os, and the build..

nope, but it can record 1 stereo audio track at a time. you can keep on recording guitars, keys, vocals, skracthes, synths, etc untill your memory is full (max 512mb).
you can eq every part, sample, multi apart (tripple filter, notch and eq, eq+ ... and other filters of course)
you can control the main mixer and every program in Aksys on a pc with the mouse. Aksys also integrates well witha to be specified audio editor (soudforge, recycle, whatever). Also drag n drop is a breeze!
if the mpc3000 has the same sampler engine as the s3000 series, then the 4k defenitly sounds better! Also 24bit/48000hz is a big difference!
the pads on the 4k are the worst ones from all mpc´s
the 4k gets kinda slow when you enter and want to edit big programs (+20mb) ecpesially when in play mode


elmacaco, if you dont want to view the edits you do on samples (trims), you just dont watch to the screen while turning the wheel! believe me, a graphical interface is dope for looping samples. its more of a must, actually

I think the MPC3000 is overpriced? It has Vintage written all over it You will be better off (and more cheap) with an MPC60 + Z4 combo.
So I would either go for the MPC4000 or MPC60 + Z4/8

I use the 2000xl and s5 (s6 for sale by the way) and ak.sys. Best setup I have ever come across.

Nah man, the 4k aint for me dog.

The philosophy behind the UI is more like a computer, everything on the screen. the 3000 / 60 have a great streamlined menu system, with buttons to get to each menu, and they are quite shallow menu's at that. All this open window nonsense with a big screen with small type, it lacks the dedicated buttons which is part of what I love about the 60.

Also, on the akai mailing list someone was breaking down the Z8/ S6000 differences, and the Z8 lost a good few things to the S 5/6000.

Given a choice I'd opt for the S5000 or 6000 (which I did opt for!)

and I always loop by ear, I have the waveform display on the 6000, and I find it can help in some cases, but most of the time I end up doing it by ear anyway. Anyone loop a sample with the waveform display without hearing the loop at all? Try that next time, and truncate after loop if you really got cajones.

I dont think that any sampler has ever toped the s5/s6 series. They are beasts that are made for MEN. Its has two of everything and a huge screen, they are beautiful.

shoot...me,my mpc3000 and S950 get along just fine.

But I wouldn't mind checkin one of those S5's one day. They are still out of my wallet range, so maybe some day...
