Notmknocking the man who made this thread (cause we've all been there at one point), but honestly I'm surprised that there was even a question that it was Note Repeat.... It's blatantly obvious....

On the real though... This goes out to classic and jorge... When you're startin it helps to study other peoples styles and mimic them to learn production... I feel what you're sayin, but if duke didn't know it was Note Repeat he prolly ain't been in this sh*t too long anyway... So take into accoutn when you were startin... You prolly had no clue what to do and just studied other peoples tracks and figured out how to mimic that... Slowly, but surely you developed your own take on that and now u got your style... I'll tell you right now that I've only been doin this sh*t seriously for like 2 maybe 2 and a half years... I'm only now startin to develop my own unique style... And that's bein true cause I used to think o sh*t this is my style... When really I was just jackin what the next man was doin.... It takes a while to really develop your own style... Some producers have taken 7 years to do that... In the meantime it can't hurt to try out what's goin on currently...

You know what they say... "You can't get where you're goin unless you know where you've been"... The same applies here... In order to make that next sh*t you gotta be up on what's been done and what's currently being done... Sh*t I've practiced producing in styles that I completely hate and would never ever release those tracks.... But on the real it's made me a more diverse producer and keeps me open-minded and up to date on what's goin on... Cause the people that make the best music are the people that are the most open-minded when it comes to music... And thats some real sh*t...

U got some good points, but lets be honest. Most of the people on here and everywhere else wont be making music 3 years from now. This ish is just a fad for them. Its a get rich quick sceme...

As a matter of fact todays producers can be seen as the "gold rush' of the 1800's everyone wants to live that "dream" I personally couldent give a **** if i get rich or not. I am a software engineer so i make good cheese. This is for the love. And honestly most of the cats who ask questions like that are to busy tryin to bite someone else instead of exploring their own abilitites.....

Its not just about that for some of us , I like to know about it because it does help you improve, you might pick up on someones trick or what not and might even be something you can improve or build something totally new out of, its not like you're making it seem as to being some wannabe or poser. For some of us its not about "making it " , am in it because I have love for it , I could give a rats ass if such and such is making big moves, eventually good things come when you're no longer at the tip of the iceberg but mastered the whole thing inside out

I disliked kanye before he was "on top"

no one is "smart enough" to be able to claim anybody is talented when it comes down to preference. personally i think exceptional talent comes from groundbreaking ability that pushes the music further ahead in totally unexpected and unthinkable ways, not from recycled stuff.

and i'm also a big fan of those who can do traditional stuff well - hi tek remains an excellent producer. i am frustrated when i see kanye getting all the buzz from hip hop fans who haven't done their homework claiming he is phenominal (not implying any of you who have done yours. i'm talking about the generation of thugs these days who only listen to shit made in 2000+).

no disrespect to any of you. if you produce, you earn points from me, and i respect it. i simply get fed up with undeserved recognition. sorry if i came off brief and crass.

So what if he wants to learn whatsomeong else has already done?
When I am learning a new jazz tune I go back and listen to as many different renditions of the tune as I can. It would be a waste of a good rescource not to pay attention and learn from those who have come before you. Like juniorcartel said its about building.

And all these comments about how kanye sucks or this guy sucks or that guy sucks. Oh please. I am so sure you are a diamond in the rough .

Vaio when i said those comments i was not addressing u personally. I have just seen alot of threads lately of people asking for specific teqniques that other cats do so they can bite them.

THinks about it , how many threads have u seen in the past months saying

"how does he to this etcc...."

Its one thing if u want to learn how to use the congo' fucntion(or any tequnique) and add your own flava to it.

Its another thing if u want to use it just to bite another cats style,
