Is a producer a...

It is very hard to become a producer. All those big producers liek DRE must have strived for a long time.

What steps would I have to take to become a professional producer? (i.e. courses, classes, schools, colleges, etc.)

Some Producers are not beatmakers at all.............................

a Producer can Be On Some O' Nah Add More FX on those Keys and then he leaves 4 hours................He Is Responsible For Overseeing a Project...................................................

Producers CAN make beats

an executive producer is mostly putting up the money to me though will little else going on for them self but collecting on the backend two fold and so on

All in all, Can I legitimately say i am a PRODUCER if all I do is MAKE BEATS?

And so, if I MADE BEATS at home, took it to a studio, sang/rapped on a track, had an engineer do the mix down, I could still be considered a PRODUCER... and if I paid for it all, then I guess I was also EXECUTIVE PRODUCER. Tell me if I'm wrong.

not all producers engineer for example liljohn, or neptunes....so producers do, to a certain extent but they dont control all the apects of mixing it down. some producers engineer in the sense that they tune theri drums etc.

Actual events during a mixing session where I was A2:

Producer to engineer "we need that bass line Eqed"
(the bass is currently muted, but our producer isnt aware of it)

A1 turns a knob that is not in line with any channel currently in the mix

Engineer to producer "how's that sound?"

Producer "man, its perfect"
