Clearing Samples?

ok i was just trying to figure out how this works. If i got a hot beat and its got some old ass sample on it how do i clear it? and if i get it cleared how does the royalty check system work? what percentage do they get? also if the song doesnt sell or im on a low budget how would i pay the royalties?
any help or links would be tight

90% of the time the artist has to pay for the sampleclearance not the beatmaker its all in the contract but its pretty standard
you need to get a hold of the label or the owner who holds fullrights to the song you are using as for royalties and sample clearance fee's it will vary depending on who the artist/label is andif they aproove and how much both parties agree to settle for i hear usually shit can range from on average 1-20k- believe it or not but could be wrong with those prices.

should i worry about clearing it untill it gets into production? and what if the original artists refuses to release the sample? do i just trash the song?

it depends i mean if your making bedroom beats for your own convience no need to worry when you start making moves you get your self a manager ,and a enternainment lawyer to look over your contracts if you wanna shop your shit independently and do under the table work
try too hook up with local artist and shop a catalogue around if someone is intrested in your work and the track contains a sample the artist will worry about sample clearances your just providing him a song arangement (beat) nothing more then that ,he responisble for legal issues if he plans on marketing his music

Just know that it maybe the labels responsibility to clear but the producer won't get paid anyways if they (the artist) can't clear the sample. So you lose anyways!! Might as well use it for a mixtape or something!
