Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

Wait, Kanye 'discovered' using 16 levels and note repeat, on congas?

please, that's not even a technique worth mentioning, everybody knows abotu note repeat and 16 levels after a day on an MPC.

Discovering something on the XL might be if you time stretch something to oe extreme, then time stretch the result to the other extreme, changes the sample in a cool way, that might be called a discovery, but combining 2 things that have a dedicated button on the front panel, shyt.

not that i'm a big kanye fan but whats with all the hating up in here!??!?!?!

Who was the last producer to have multi-platnum and grammy status using samples, an ASR, and a mpc??????

Looks like he's opening doors, regardless of how "simple" his beats may be

PS the new common joint produced by kanye just uses a simple drum loop, the track is hittin in the streets, cats in chi love the fact we gettin rep. simple or not kanye's beats sound hot......deal with it

It ain't how you make it, its how it sounds when its finshed.

my $0.02

It's not hating, it's looking behind the curtain. When someone gets rich, r famous, there is a tendency to glorify them and act like they are some sort of pioneer, even when they aren't. Carnegie, rockafeller, all got rich off of child labor and 18 hour workdays. it's just the facts.

When you have a producer getting all sorts of laurels, you can look behind the curtain and see what the wizard is actually doing. A guy like Timbaland is actually doing some shit behind the curtain, so even if you look you can't copy his steez. Kanye, well, he's the donald trump of beats, being at rockafella and becoming a beatmaker with all them roc producers showing you their formula is like trump making his empire with only a few million inherited.

Anyone saying "don't look behind the curtain" aka "stop hating" is afraid of people fnding out what is really happening. People discount madlib because he uses mad loops, and no one calls out hater cuz he isn't a huge media icon, but when some corporate styled "Hero" gets the same scrutiny, it's hating.

First off you get some heat!!!! FIREEE!!! I likes!!!! Secondly let all the INTERNET DJ PREMIER's have their say online, lord knows they won't be in the game to kick none of that BS anyways so WHO CARES, let'em talk!!!

By elmacaco Thu Mar 10, 2005 9:46 pm
I know Kanye's Lawyer, there's a lot you don't know about holmes.

Yall working off of press releases and payola.

By misterv Thu Mar 10, 2005 9:55 pm
wow

lot of talk for really nothing

personnally, I think Kanye has some heat, but it's true that sometimes his beats may sound too "easy"

but I don't even give a ****, who cares, if it sounds good then in the end of the day it s a good track !

sometimes peeps on the forums talk too much, as if they had time to spare for this kind of BS
man, they better spend time in the lab makin fire instead of talkin non sense or whateva on the net

just my 2 cents

(I took time to write this which shows I m an internet guy too, but **** it, I got a sample ready to get flipped in the MPC, Peace ya'll...)

By elmacaco Thu Mar 10, 2005 10:37 pm
yeah well, I'm always in the lab, got a track ready for song mode, so that's not excuse. maybe I type and think faster than most cats.

im an internet guy, cause i think about my music 24/7/365.......not to be a dork about it, but its true.

its my only place to really discuss shit, or constantly read and learn(not the only place, but one of my sources). And connect with other people with similar interests. Ive got no other real person to look up to, except my favorite producers, and thats less as good as talkin to some cats on here, cause im not talkin to any of em. I also feel that Helping others (answering posts) even if i dont know everything, improves my own skills, and makes me actually think about what im doing.

Just cause you are part of a forum and debate stupid shit, doesnt mean that youre a newb or cant bring the heat. Granted youve got a good point^^^^its a waste of **** time to those who are all talk. And **** what everyone else is doing. BS is BS.

but.

If im not here, im makin beats, and if im not makin beats, im at least thinking about it in some way or another.............when i watch movies, hear others music, at work, at class.................Just livin life, i think about my music

my life revolves around my music.

I know Nothin was aimed at me, im not tryin to start...............but im just sayin. Using the internet arguement is just lame. Information and knowledge is a good thing. Even if pussy post stupid shit; and the 16 levels is something everyone should know the first day they own the mpc. I know the Original post did not want to get bashed for asking a question.......i dont think any question is stupid, and although he should have known it first day......doesnt make him wrong.

Dont get shit twisted.

Thats just me though. Peace.

By elmacaco Thu Mar 10, 2005 11:15 pm
Good Point.

my beef was not with the question, but the statement that Kanye discovered using 16 levels and note repeat together.

Yes, lets not get shyt twisted.

yeah, el and cy, that shit wasn t aimed at nobody in particular

it s just that sometimes it amazes me how much argue over nothin...

By BlackestBeats Fri Mar 11, 2005 4:14 pm
Even Kanye has says he dont give a fluck about technique, just as long as it sound good at the end of the day. Now, ya'll can't disagree that his shit does sound hot although it can the same.

for sure, i completely agree with you.........just venting how i felt too.

ITs funny, cause words are so hard to interpet, (just speaking in general, not neccesarily about this post) because you could say one thing, and someone will read it completely differant. I think in general im a sarcastic person too, but I dont think i come across like that, and if i try to, people think im childish or a dick

Just in general, even the stupidest questions seem even wayyyy more stupid in words too. Like if we were all kickin it, and talkin, the kanye thing probably would have come up and we would just talked about it for like 5 seconds, probably sparked something else-and wouldnt even care abou it. Ya feel me? and we'd probably talk about stooopider shit! ya know!

we cool. i hope im cool with everyone else too.

I think patience is an important thing......cause ive had some of my best firends ask some of the stupidest shit.......and if i were to judge them off of those stupid ass things, id be lookin past some of the most incredible people. Just something to think about. and im guilty of asking some really lame newb questions too, even though im not a newb

Sorry for the rambling. Peace.
