I have a four track that never gets used, well used twice when my computer was down, but I recorded direct from the gear to the computer. The 4 track convinced me to just fix the computer.
I would like to use a reel to reel someday, but it may share my 4 track's fate.

Yeah - I have a ostex R8 lying around that doesn't rewind anymore. It's a real shame cos to get it looked at will cost as much as buying another one 
great sound though - we did some subjectve tests with it going up against an Otari 2inch 24 track and there seemed to be very little difference in the general bandwidth. We also managed to get some real cool flanging going between the two machines. We wouldn't have expected that was possible if the fostex was not reproducing a very similar signal to the otari.
