hhhmm.

well i would say that i agree with you 100% except i read that scratch interview.........where he talks about jackin other peoples drums!

i dont know, i mean, its one of those ethical things. But ends dont justify the means.

as in, he dont give a fluck about technique, but if you are biting. Not to say that hes directly biting, but he gets sooo much credit, awards, etc. and hes jackin other peoples drums. Hes supposedly an "inovator" Now i know that sampling is debateable and some will argue that hes jackin other peoples music of vinyl, etc and its fair game, but why'd he admit to it in a guilty way?

As a producer, I personally respect the art, (not that he doesnt) but I take pride in my music, and if i knew i got there by biting, or jackin others drums then got awarded from it, I dont think id feel good with myself. Maybe thats why he set the record straight in scratch, but. I dont know. Thats how i feel about it. Its not right or wrong answer i dont think. But I also jack loops from vinyl, and id argue that its still being creative and original depending how you arrange it, flip it, chop, etc.... So who am i to say, you cant jack drums from another producer?

But kanye is making big moves, and maybe in those positions you gotta do what you gotta do. But where do you draw the line? Im seriosly wondering? cause weve all jacked ideas, or techniques from people, you know, examined and taught our selves from others........the majority of us sample too. So is kanye wrong? or are we all just too damn critical? I guess id like to draw an ethical line for myself.....and set a basis that i build my sampling beliefs on?!............where do you all stand?

Lets discuss  as im just tossing out ideas, but am curious to what others have to say........

the song is made from two loops. the drums/chatting sample is from a temptations song "What it is", and the sample is from the temprees. No programming involved. dope song.

No idea is ever completely original, no matter how creative you think you are. There's always an influence on your mind that came from somewhere. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, I think in music production it's to your advantage to have knowledge and influences. I think it actually makes you more creative.

I've just started sampling recently and some people may just do it to make tight beats, but when I was digging I was looking at the artists and whatnot and I realized that a lot of these people wouldn't be getting heard if it weren't for sampling. A lot of these records would just go on unheard and unnoticed, probably thrown away or destroyed. I really believe that sampling not only recreates music that might not be heard otherwise (which is a shame), but it is very creative and depending on the person it can be completely moral.

i agree with a lot of the views on here but if kanye jacks drums from somebody its not really saying anything. whos to say the joints kanye does is the way the person hes jacking from wouldve made the same song with them or flip the same sample the way he has. everybody knows producers might hear different things and flip samples differently so who cares if he jacks drums at least he's honest. also theres alot of people saying son is wack but when i hear they're material its not even close to what kanye does cuz if it was they would be selling beats like crazy dont u think?

I don’t know about you but, if I walked in the lab and saw somebody jackin my drums…. Straight off my discs, I’d be pretty pissed. To sample something I sampled is one thing. Or even to sample my drums off of a recorded disc of music I released… it’s a gray area, but ok. But to copy drums directly from my program disk… thas cause for a ass whoopin. That’s like snatchin a verse from my notebook. I don’t respect that. And he spoke on it as if its no big deal… so you don’t know how far his “jackin” could go.

^^^thats what im talkin about.

I mean, yeah, at least he's being honest..............but dude was probably afraid whoever he jacked the drums from, would call him on it........thats why he was being honest. Because it was dishonest to begin with.

granted there is alot of gray area-did you read the alchemist interview? how he was talkin about kanye, and how he asked him how he does his drums? the alchemist said something to the effect "youre kanye west, you dont need to know how my drums are" (sorry not exact quote.........but truth non the less)

Yea, it's one thing to take a sound and rearrange them. But it's another to just take some drum loop and use it and pretend like it's your own work. That's why I think people who sample and leave the sample as it is should always give credit without hesitation. Too bad it's not like that...

LMAO, I guess you can tell Alchemist doesn't like Kanye. I don't blame him.

alchemist is a pretty humble dude on the other hand u have kanye who is a straight **** and he'll tell u that himself but yeah i said it was no big deal to take a couple of things before but i see where everybody is comin from about jackin ur disks that u probably spent hours, days, months tweakin and gettin everything just perfect.

By AXE26 Tue Mar 15, 2005 3:26 pm
but with all that said i still like kanye's work regardless of who thinks he's ill or not

^^for sure,

even if he is orveratted or whatever, hes still got some nice sounding tracks.

He also sort of crossed that "hiphop" to non hiphop listener area..........which you cant hate on.

Like my mom bought his album?! i was like "what the **** mom!"

But alot of my friends who arent into hiphop alot, like his tracks, especially the Dialated peoples, and his classic jayz joint.

you lot still chattin bout this guy?
please no matter how you say it u still on his dik!
agh! i tell you what, listen to his beats without the vocals (instrumentals)
and then holla back at me...you will know what i mean when you hear it.

By AXE26 Tue Mar 15, 2005 5:50 pm
but remember he's not just a beat maker he's a producer so he helps with the actual making of the song and how it sounds so to say listen to his instrumentals in hopes of finding what u think is wack can't happen. I would also like to hear somebody who disses him, to put a track of theirs up to any of his so we can be the judge. and to say someone is on his dik is crazy u mean to tell me u dont have producers u favor u just didnt wake up one day without listening to music and said i want to make beats.

You will be surprised how many tracks sound wack without any vocals on top.
