laptops........

easy... im thinkin of gettin a laptop for college but was thinkin of using it to house all my music software on.. CEP etc etc.... plus i thought it would look smart in my bedroom next to the MPC kinda not takin up as much room as a desktop.....
what i wanted to know is do any of u use a laptop for beatmakin purposes ? hows the memory etc and what about soundcards and laptops..... im presuming they cant take normal soundcards ...... i dunno......

I would go wth the MBox. My boy does the laptop PC studio thing and that's what he uses along with protools LE. It's pretty nice.. 512mb ram PIII 850mhz, 40gb hard drive, Windows XP SP1. You need SP1 in order to load MBOX and Protools LE correctly.

I heard the Mbox has some issues with using plug ins in real time. is this true? I'm not a big PT fan, but If this is true that would really be whack.

you want a mac or pc? i use a g3 iBook with 733mHz, 384 ram and it is pretty sweet. i run digital performer in it. my sound card is firewire which is nice too. but i dont know if trying to run your laptop for school and audio is the best idea unless you get a seperate hard drive for your audio. i havent heard about mbox and real time plugins.

i`m using a Mac G3 Powerbook Pismo 500 mhz, 384 MB Ram with logic audio, peak+spark for wave- editing, mt4 midi-interface, a lot of plugins....And I´m using it for my work, too! No Problem with that! You just have to seperate your music data from the rest of your data.
I`m using an external 120 GB Firewire-HD for that.
The Motu Firewire Interface is cool, mbox or digi01, Hammerfall Card...
