Samples vs. Composition

I know some cats on here are talented when it comes to composing but what do you guys and gals think is easier.To chop a sample or compose your own joint?Like today i'm sittin down tryin' to chop and i just can't get nothin' to sound right.I got so frustrated i just turned my joint off.

Don't take it personal, look at it as practice.

You still can compose with samples.

True,it just aggrevates me to sit down for a few hours and come up with nothin'.

yup. thats been me the whole week. so i decided to say **** it and do that library thing i said in the other thread. it helps to clear my mind, but give me shit to work with when i get back into makin shit.

Well i can do both, compsititon is my bread and butter but alot of times i will chop a sample and compose on top of it. Or many times i will sample myself and chop it.

Which evey one is easier depends on your back ground
Since I am a pianist, composing comes alot more natural to me. Sampling is something i have had to work at.
But if u ask a DJ /producer the same thing, hey may say sampling comes more natural

It's not a debate,just wanted some input.Just to see what cats are doin.Not sayin i'm gonna hop on board and do the same, just like to see what's happenin' in the community.

i find it both very creative to do both. somedays i can take a sample and flip it, sometimes i can't think of any thing to do with it. somedays i can just sit at my triton and pluck little melodies and be ***** mozart. but overall i like samples. i even take a piece of the sample and recreate it.

i feel like ive been doing that for years now! but trust me, you just have to pay attention to details and things will fall into place

my pet peeves:

1) producers who rock synths but have weak ass beats, AND they cant flip/chop and really create out of samples, so they try to clown sample-based production claiming it is un-original.

2) producers who sample but have weak ass beats. all they do is loop for the most part, cant creatively compose with samples AND bc they can't make a synth beat from scratch, they hate by talking about how its not real hiphop.

what is easier TO ME? flipping samples, and that is no disrespect bc i sample and i came up on producers like primo, pete rock, easy moe bee, etc. in fact, most of my heat is all sample-based production. for me, its jsut easier.

that being said, i know heads who can rock crazy synth beats from scratch, but couldnt flip a sample if their life depended on it. i can sit hours on end at my board trying to come up with a hot song, and ending up with a corny ass piece. but when i sample, i am already starting off with a foundation that is hot (at least to me, thats why im sampling it). thats my take on it all.

The only thing that pisses me of about original comps. is that they sound way too clean going into my Digi.

The only KeyBoard beats Guys I really Like are the Rza and Some of Timbaland's stuff.Megahertz is coming up to. You can keep the Scott torch's Swizz beats and LiL Jon's. I prefer The Pete Rocks and Large Pro and Premos of the world because:1) That's era I come from 2)These Brother's also producer consistant Lp's Coming from a Dj/Sample Background.How many Classic or even solid Lp's come from Timbo or Neptune Types?? Hot Singles,YES.HOT Albums NO.On the other hand I Really like Analog Synths. So the I think it's all about your approach. Sittin a Motif and banging on three or 4 keys and caling it hot, just isn't for me, but as we speak I'm taking key lessons to improve my Chord progessions, so.......
