sampling your favourite parts

Hey whats up guys/girls. When your sampling right, you know when you hear an interesting part of the record your playing and your like "oh damn I should sample this. This sounds wicked!" But then all of the sudden a drum plays on the part that you wish too sample then your like "a shit I love that part of this song" What do you do? Do you try too filter it, or do u skip too another part and find anything that is open with no instruments playing in the background. Keep me posted

nah i just layer my drums on the other drums. so u dont even notice the old drums. With good filtering and eq u can usally do it perfect.

Depends what I wanna use it for...Layering new drums over it, filtering, slicing and pasting are all alternatives and options to gettin round the above

If drums are over gettin in the way of what I wanted it for etc, then the search will continue

i like to use that drum as a stab...layer it with bass/synths, and put my own drum over it. if not, i'll just turn the lows all the way down, and mess aournd with the other parts of the eq to make it sound perfect.

it all depends on how i wanna approach it.

Make a beat lol. It doesnt have too be 3 mins. I wasn't going too ask for that long anyways. just a short one, 20 secs or less. I just wanted too hear how anyone would make it like.

a lot of beats recorded in the 60s and 70s are panned in such a way that when you have a stereo sample of it, one side will have drums and one side will have everything but drums.

Try each separate mono half of the stereo sample you have, and see if one has no drums on it. You can convert the stereo sample to monoLEFT and monoRIGHT, inside the MPC. Listen to both...I found many a loop that way, when I thought drums in the sample meant all was lost.

I'm blessed enough to have found a team of ill studio players. My boy Bounce is SICK on the bass (he's the son of legendary blues gitarist Kenny Neal) so when I find ill stuff that has TOO MUCH going on in the sample, I try and re create it the best I can ( that way I take the vibe of the sample and add my own twist too it).

Yeah actually I realized that on one of the records I listened too *laughs* I opened up cool edit pro just checking it out and you know how you have the waveforms, the top is the left channel (left speaker) and the bottom is the right channel (right speaker) I would only highlight one of each and it plays different instruments so that was pretty interesting but I wasnt able too get rid of the drums Oh well thats cool.. Keep me posted

I think that sample is one you pretty much just layer the drums over.
