Question about Reason..............

i want to do basically the same thing i want to use the sounds from reason and vst's i have and record them into the mpc through midi. so a few weeks ago i got a m-audio midi controller 49 keys and i thought it would work. i had the usb from the controller to my laptop then midi out on the controller to the mpc in. with it setup this way i could hear both the mpc and computer but the notes from the computer would not record into the mpc. so i did a little reasearch and now i'm under the impression that now all i have to do is have a midi wire from the mpc out to the computer in and it will record the notes im just waiting to buy a midi soundcard to try it. but if anyone else has the same problem maybe that will work. let me know if you try.

That is correct. I have two set-ups in my home. Reason/MPC3KLE and Reason/MPC2KXL.

The MIDI out of my MPC is connected to the MIDI IN of my USB MIDI interface/soundcard. Within Reason, I assign each sound module to their own MIDI channel. Within the MPC, I assign a MIDI channel to each track. I can record/playback Reason tracks (MIDI data) directly from my MPC. You can also playback/record Reason from a MIDI keyboard connected to the MPC.

Also, if you want to sequence from the MPC but still keep all your sounds within Reason...just save your MPC tracks as a MIDI File on floppy. Insert the floppy into your PC floppy drive and import the MIDI file to Reasons. Reason will playback your tracks exactly. You can then mix within Reason and export your tracks as an audio file.

You can also sync up Reason to the MPC. Use the MPC as the sequencer. When you are ready to dump it into your DAW for mixdown, you can rewire Reason and have the MPC still control it.

thanks peeps i knew yu culd use reason as a sound module with the mpc. i knew it wasent just "one way to do it"

YEP U Can And The Only Reason I Don't Use it thru midi cables is MY Midi response times are very slow compared to USB................

If you get a good quality MIDI interface, there should be very little to no latency. I purchased a Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI (MIDI only no audio)interface for my kids and have pretty good results. Some combo USB AUDIO/MIDI interfaces to have added latency. I use an RME DSP9652 digital audio/MIDI PCI card. There really no noticable latency using this card.

True. I made the mistake in thinking about my audio/midi interface when refering to just a stand alone MIDI interface.

but is there a way to use reason as a sound mod in real time. Like have midi channel 1 be on mpcs 1 and midi channel 2 be on mpcs 2. so u could use the mpc to fully seq it? casue i cant fig it out. I dont see any areas to assign devices to channels, cept for the one ur workin on. Like i have a redrum selected it will only work with the channel that reason sets as the main.

this is what classic told me to do and it works

Here is the basic set up

MIDI out of your keyboard to the MIDI in of the MPC
MIDI out (A or B)your your MPC to the MIDI in of your soundcard
THen u set up your VST to recvice the MIDI signal

THis way u will have 16 channels (16 differnt instraments)that u can play from ur VST using you MPC MIDI tack function
MIDI track 1A(or B) to... 16A(or B)

So with your MIDI keyboard you can play sounds on the MPC and your computer vst's.

U will treat the computer vst's just like you would treat a soundmodule, the only differnce is that the rack is on your computer.

You audio would have to be like this

Audio out from your MPC INTO your MIXER(mpc sound)
Audio out from your soundcard INTO your mixer(the vst sound)

Audio Mixer OUTPUTS back INTO your soundcard(vst and MPC sound)

THis way u will be able to hear and record the sounds from your MPC and your VST at the same time by listening to audio from your mixer(headphones, speakers) or recording from your mixer back into your soundcard.

mwalker dose 3.0 let you use VST instruments or control other sound moduels from its sequencer. I have 2.5 and this to my knowlege is not possible. BTW I love reason in conjunction with my MPC 2KXL.

i can't wait till i get my soundcard so i can try it out after all this feedback

vincent that works fine with vsts. reason is not a vst though. used in another host, then what u are sayin works fine, but im talkin bout just opening reason and seqin the devices inside of it with the mpc.
