Good dig spots in Seattle...

Hey what's up all, I'll be in Seattle this coming week...22nd-25th, just wondering if there was any good spots to dig up there...let me know, thanks

OK I gotta plug Jive Time Records, not just because I work there, but also because it's the best. I am all over Seattle/Tacoma diggin all the time and nothing can touch home base because we are the only shop that actively seeks out and buys collections. Everyone else sits on their azz waiting for records to walk in the door.

Don't let the super rare collectable stuff on the walls scare you off. If you look in the dollar section, dollar 12 inch, and the clearance soul and jazz sections you will find great records for $1-$3 that most other shops around here would charge a lot more for. There's even a breaks section if you are lazy or are looking for a famous break. We've got some real nice soul stuff in lately William Devaughn, Fuzzy Haskins, etc.

There are MANY spots in this town though, three days aint enough. I just have to plug my shop because lately I feel it is slept on by sample diggers. I am usually there in the Capitol hill location on Wednesday afternoons. Stop by and check it out and I will hip you to some other spots too. This goes for anyone else in Seattle too. Itchy you here?

Nope, I did 3 years in Seattle, but then had to come back to the Cali sunshine. I simply could not deal with the weather there.

Yes, Jive Time is real good. But, when I lived there it was only in Freemont. Is there one in Capitol Hill now too, or did it move?

I used to check out the owner's (David was it?) other spots too.
Especially F.A.M. (SSHHHHH) I was on a first name basis with the girl who worked in there from digging there so often.
That guy knows records more than most store owners. Especially on the rare funk/breaks/soul jazz tip. He does his homework, and actually goes out and digs himself - even at other stores to find jems for his own store.
I think he actually hides good records in the dollar bins so that diggers come in and feel like an Easter egg hunt. Keeps em coming in.
I gave that guy HUNDREDS - maybe thousands in record sales when I lived there. I had a really good paying job at the time (not any more )

Cool itchy, I hear you on the weather, though it's been unseasonably nice lately. You got all our rain down in California this year.

The Fremont store is still there, as is FAM but the Greenwood spot is closed. We moved all the singles 12s and 7s up to the new store on the hill, so there's room for a lot more dollar lps at the old spot. I just buy and price the 12s so I am mostly at the new store, no working behind the counter all day which is nice. Yeah David is a very cool cat... very knowledgable but doesn't act like he knows it all.

I got a couple cool ones there today, Rock Flowers and that Atari Missle Command record.

wait a second, where's the store on capitol hill? I just moved to Tacoma from the hill, but still go up to visit regularly. Know where Fremont store is, how did I miss this one?

Well I never posted since I've been back, but I did find a lot of shops. The only one I can remember the name of is[because I have the bag from there] Easy Street records in Queenanne. I went up to Capitol Hill, but only at night. Went to the Chapel with a friend that lives up there. I went to a lot of shops but don't recall any of the names, nor have I even had a listen to what I picked up due to my tables being packed away temporarily...thanks for the leads though...

Cool, I can't believe I missed that. Guess I wasn't hardcore diggin' back then... but still...

One thing though, I might be tripping but I don't see the Cap. Hill address on your website. I'm pretty sure it's not listed there. I know right where that is, but I just thought it would be a good thing to have for people who don't go to this forum. I like to see businesses like yours have a lot of success. Important to our way of life.

Hmmm.... maybe if you are on a slow connection you have to wait for the whole page to load? It's right on the front (only) page right in the middle of the page above the wide pink horizontal line and under the spinning record animation. If you don't see the record spinning or the tonearm, it's not done loading.

If anyone does not see the address could you please let me know what OS and browser you are using and I will see if I can get someone to fix it.

QP, check us out the next time you come to the hill. I'ma be in Wednesday afternoons. Also check Respect Records on like 14th and Pine, they are cool cats and have old stuff as well as a big used and new hiphop selection. And don't sleep on Platinum at Broadway and Pike for the decent price reissues all the way in the back.

hmm.. well i guess i'm crazy cause the only address i see is the fremont one in the location you described. and the record is most definitely spinning. but if it works for you, no worries cause i got the address.

i will most definitely check you guys out next time i'm up there. haven't had a chance to lately, but it is on my list. I have been to Respect Records, and Platinum is right next to my old apartment. but somehow i missed you guys... so anyways, i'll be there, you can count on it
