I need some Midi help for the mpc 4000

Every time I hook my midi keyboard to my 4000 the sounds assign themselfs to the pads and the keyboard?
I want to through down a beat and play a riff over the top,

the midi sounds assign themselfs to both keyboard and the pads
how can I assign the midi file to the keyboard without the midi sounds dumping to pads.

With your synth i think you need to say assign one sound to a midi channel. on the synth this might be called a part or something. Then on your mpc on the main screen. Goto the bottom and make it so OUT A is assigned to cnannel 1. Then go to the next track and make it so out a is assigned to Midi channel 2. go to your synth and create a part for midi channel 2. then when you switch between track 1 and 2 on your mpc you can use drums or whatever else independently.Im no expert but i think that should help if im not misunderstanding you. THe sound will assign itself to the pads and the keyboard as far as i know anyway, but maybe if you still want to get around it you could split the keyboard and assign one half to notes that are represented by the pads, if that makes sense.

Ok I think you need a little explanation. the sounds aren't dumping to the pads in any way, they are just being controlled both by the mpc and by the keyboard itself. the mpc is playing what you are telling it to . ie, if your synth is hooked to midi port A, and that's what you choose in your track, the mpc will play the sounds from the keyboard, they are in no way dumped to the mpc. If your synth is multi timbral (what kind of synth is it??) then you have to choose that option and put the synth in multi mode.
once that is done, lets say your drum sounds are on channel one of the synth, and you select MIDI out A, channel 1, it's gonna play those sounds on track 1. hit next track but this time, choose MIDI out A channel 2, and on the keyboard select a bass for example.

now record your kick on track one and then hit next track and record the bass on channel 2... that's what a multitimbral synth allows you to do. Multi as in Multiple, and timbre as in..... you guessed it, timbres which in short means sound or texture. if your synth is 16 part multi timbralm it means you can have 16 sounds, patches, programs, whatever you want to call them, and you can layer those. however if you are in program mode on your keyboard, it will only play one sound.
